Explore your next role: The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist responsible for the monitoring and amendment of policies and processes specifically related to Occupational Health and Safety within Voyageur and all Voyageur work areas and locations. The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist will ensure regulatory requirements are met effectively and identify and report trends and findings to the Director SRMS-E, for the purpose of maintaining and continuously improving Occupational Health and Safety policies and processes throughout the Company, and to ensure effective reporting to regulatory bodies as required, The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist will foster a culture of safety and influence safe behaviours in all areas of the company.
  • Responsible to remain current and understand requirements of Canadian Safety regulations (i.e., CLC, COHSR, AOHSR, etc.).
  • Responsible for advising on company Health and Safety Manual amendments to ensure changes to policies and procedures reflect current legislation.
  • Complete safety activity tasks by reviewing existing Occupational health and safety related hazards and potential barriers associated with company activities.
  • Actively participate on the Occupational Health and Safety committee to report and discuss monthly Hazards, injuries/illnesses and assist in the development and implementation of corrections to bring closure to Health and Safety action items.
  • Monitor workplace and health and safety inspections to ensure that the entirety of the workplace has been inspected in accordance with the company Health and Safety Manual and all applicable legislation.
  • Review and recommend amendments to workplace health and safety inspections as required.
  • Work with Organizational teams to address and correct items discovered through inspections and hazard and safety review activities.
  • Work with Investigators to address safety concerns as expressed by employees through reported Irregularities.
  • Liaise with SRMS Investigators to contribute to effective investigation and closure of Occupational Health and Safety related Irregularity Reports and relevant reporting to regulatory bodies.
  • Review Safety and Risk Management Database to assess continued compliance with company policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Identity any trends that may exist related to reported safety issues.
  • Prepare, execute, and document emergency preparedness and response tasks in collaboration with the SRMS team Maintain membership on the Policy Health and Safety Committee.
Training Program Administration
  • Review Company Occupational Health and Safety training programs for amendment to ensure continued compliance with legislation and current company policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Ensure training programs, and associated tests, test scores and test feedback are reviewed and amended to ensure clarity of information and intent of training is met.
  • Create new training programs as necessary to meet organizational Occupational Health and Safety requirements for compliance with applicable legislation and hazard mitigation.
  • Review Training Matrices and Records to assess compliance with company policies and procedures and regulatory requirements as they relate to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Provide Occupational Health and Safety training to personnel as part of the employee on-boarding program.
  • Respond to requests for OH&S training, and schedule training days.
Your Distinctive Ingredients for Success:
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Knowledge and experience specific to Federal Occupational Health and Safety, the Canada Labour Code (CLC), Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (COHSR)
  • Knowledge and experience related to Aviation Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (AOHSR) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) an asset.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Proven computer skills with an emphasis on MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.

Location and other Key Details:
  • You will work out of our North Bay head office.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
