The City is making a transformational cultural shift on how we approach Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). As a Safety Advisor, you will support safety management systems and be the ambassador of our safety culture. You will be embedded with our clients to ensure they receive high quality customer service, proactive initiatives and safe workplaces. Primary duties include:

As part of a team, develop strategies and objectives for the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). Support the development and implementation of the corporate OHSMS. Assist with managing contractors including prequalifying, reviewing safety plans, monitoring, risk analysis, and guidance for the contract managers. Collaborate with your client's leadership teams across various business units. Deliver coaching, mentoring, training, ergonomic assessments, and orientation support. Provide incident management, emergency response planning and hazard assessment support and guidance for supervisors and managers. Provide ongoing communication related to the OHSMS, corporate initiatives and key performance indicators for your client's management teams.


Qualifications

A completed 1 year certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related area and at least 5 years of safety related experience that includes developing, implementing or sustaining safety management systems. A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, with no current suspensions or charges pending. The use of a personal vehicle for business use is required. Related certifications such as National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH), Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation will be considered assets. Knowledge of change management, training, auditing, investigating, ergonomics, technical writing, project management, and contractor management combined with operational/project experience in a large complex organization dealing with multiple partners and implementing large programs will also be considered assets. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong decision-making skills, political acumen, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in stressful situations.

Working Conditions:

This position conducts site visits with regular exposure to hazards such as noise, dust, and adverse weather conditions. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required while on site visits.

Pre-employment Drug Test:

An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
