Accountability:

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for assisting with patient care following established standards and practices.


Qualifications:



Post-Secondary education in Registered Practical Nurse or equivalent Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse

Hours of Work:




Part-time - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm OR 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. The clinic is open Monday to Friday excluding statutory holidays.

Roles and Responsibilities:



The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will practice to his/her full scope of practice as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario.


Duties include:



Performing general nursing care for patients. Preparing equipment and ensuring examination rooms are clean and stocked with required supplies and materials. Greeting patients and preparing them for physical examination. Screening patients for appropriate information and instructing them in accordance with the College of Nurse of Ontario standards. Maintaining and reviewing patient electronic medical records and other pertinent information. Responding to telephone inquiries relating to patients, lab requests, x-rays, prescription requests, etc. Providing telephone advise and telephone triage as required. Performing other related duties within the clinic as may be assigned.

Performance Requirements:



Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures for patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to provide patient care. Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic medical records, writing reports and responding to both oral and written inquiries. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective therapeutic relationships with patients and the public. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with medical and clinic staff. The ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures. The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
