Roma Youth Ambassadors
to join our team in a
part time contract
role until
March 31, 2026

The Roma Youth Ambassador will play a key role in engaging and empowering youth from Roma and other newcomer communities through outreach, mentorship, and community-based activities. The ideal candidate will have experience working or volunteering with youth from diverse, newcomer, and low-income backgrounds, and possess an understanding of the issues shaping youth culture in multi-racial and multi-lingual communities. They will demonstrate a strong commitment to anti-oppression, equity, inclusion, and LGBTQ+ positive practices, along with excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Fluency in both written and spoken English, as well as
proficiency in either
Romani or a Slovak
language
, is essential for effective communication in this role. The candidate should be able to engage youth through creative, recreational, or arts-based activities and be proficient in basic computer and administrative tasks, including MS Office and attendance tracking. Availability during lunch and after-school hours (Monday-Friday) is required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Co-design and facilitate lunch and after-school programs in collaboration with TNO and Flemingdon Health Centre staff.
Engage Roma and Slovak youth (ages 13-18) through recreational, leadership, and mentorship activities.
Support youth in identifying personal and community goals, building confidence, and developing life skills.
Create an inclusive and respectful drop-in environment that promotes wellbeing and reduces isolation.
Work closely with the Youth Wellbeing and Violence Prevention Specialist and FHC staff to implement trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and anti-oppression approaches.
Support the coordination of guest workshops, mentorship sessions, and health and wellness activities.
Contribute to community events and advocacy initiatives promoting youth empowerment and safety.
Track attendance and participation using TNO's data systems.
Support the completion of pre/post program surveys and feedback tools.
Maintain confidentiality and ensure youth safety protocols are followed at all times.
Support TNO outreach activities
Jointly with service partners, conducts program promotion in community social landmarks Supports outreach activities with other TNO departments and services
Conduct outreach to youth in the Flemingdon community, including those at risk or disengaged from school.
Actively participates in program's community development activities including advocacy, outreach and community engagement and empowerment activities
Participates in and supports local community events
Promote program awareness through direct engagement, word of mouth, and peer networks.
Serve as a positive role model and peer mentor for Roma youth.
Screening
- As a condition of employment, the successful applicant must complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Job Type:
Part-time contract position until March 31, 2026.
Language Required:
Fluent in Romani or Slovak (speaking, reading, and writing).
Work Locations:
45 Overlea Blvd, Toronto, ON M4H 1C3; 10 Gateway Blvd, North York, ON M3C 3A1; and other TNO locations as required.
Schedule:
15 hours per week (Contract, Part-Time), Monday to Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00p.m., with a flexible schedule on weekends as needed.
