About the Department of Risk Services

Mount Royal University's Risk Management operates by using a structured approach to identify and evaluate risks that Mount Royal University is exposed to, and then develops efficient ways to manage (control) and finance the risks. The management of risks and opportunities is a shared responsibility by all members of the University. With any activity, there is an element of uncertainty due to Mount Royal University's desire to be creative and innovative. The diverse needs of faculty, students, and staff also present risks, as well as new, exciting opportunities. Risk Management assists in the decision making processes that minimize potential losses while exploring those opportunities.

About the Role

The Risk Analyst provides support to the Manager, Risk & Insurance in all aspects of the enterprise-wide risk management program; this role facilitates the identification of risks throughout the organization, develops, reports and monitors formats on risk management issues, and develops methodologies for the assessment of risks and subsequent mitigation of risks and supports the management of Insurance, Claims, and Emergency Response Planning.

Responsibilities

Data Analysis

  • Provide analytical support related to the aggregate tracking of risk indicators, ratings and limits.
  • Control and update information records and risk database development.
  • Support the completion and achievement of ERM initiatives, including key risk assessments in order to highlight operational deficiencies and areas of improvement for the organization.
  • Insurance wording reviews and claims management.
Program Development & Support
  • Risk project development, including completion of work plans, coordinating resources, preparation of meeting materials, and training and procedural documents
  • Complete ongoing research of risk best practices and monitor cases on specialty websites, ensuring updates to regulatory and compliance organizations are gathered, reviewed and brought to the attention of the manager.
  • Update the Emergency Response Plan manual, including the development of customized manuals for some areas (e.g., Recreation, RLLC).
  • Support ongoing improvements to the Emergency Operations.
  • Act as a resource to other staff within the department
  • Build collaborative working relationships with staff external to the department and external networks within area of specialization.
Training/ Incident Management and reporting
  • Support the organization and coordination of annual EOC training/exercise, including soliciting feedback from and disseminating training materials/notes to EOC members
  • Tracking Incidents and analyzing incidents for trends.
  • Providing a statistical analysis of events.
  • Recommend corrective actions
  • Coordinating an interdisciplinary and multi departmental analysis when negative events occurs.
Qualifications
  • Three or Four year Bachelor Degree or Equivalent, including a strong focus on project management, risk management, strategic management, analysis or other related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years' experience with ERM , Insurance, Claims, Compliance or other regulatory oversight firm.
  • Certified Risk Manager Designation required
  • Strong technical writing background (reports and procedures)
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Google Suite of applications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and interpersonal.
  • Self-Starter who takes a pro-active approach and is able to build relationships.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
