Job Posting: Respite Worker (Evenings & Weekends)


Embrace Learning and Development Centre - Scarborough, ON



Embrace Learning is seeking caring, dependable, and motivated

Respite Workers

to support children and youth with

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

and developmental disabilities (ages 3-17). Services are delivered

in-centre at our Scarborough location

and

in-home as needed

.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with children, creating safe and nurturing environments, and contributing meaningfully to the lives of families.

Position Overview



Respite Worker


Location:

Scarborough (in-centre) + in-home sessions as required

Start Date:

As soon as possible

Key Responsibilities



Provide high-quality respite care in the centre or in the family home. Facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate

play and recreational activities

(e.g., games, crafts, sensory play). Ensure a

safe, structured, and supportive environment

for all children. Follow individualized behaviour strategies and sensory supports. Encourage social skills, communication, and positive peer interactions. Support emotional regulation using proactive and positive reinforcement strategies. Implement simple routines and promote independence in daily activities (e.g., tidying, snack routines). Maintain cleanliness and safety within play and activity areas. Provide brief session updates to parents/guardians and collaborate professionally with the Embrace Learning team. Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and respect for diversity at all times.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)



Experience

working with children or youth with ASD or developmental disabilities (required).

First Aid & CPR Certification

(required).

Vulnerable Sector Screening / Police Reference Check

(required).

Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)

or

SMG (Safe Management Group)

training (required).

Preferred Applicants will possess:



Coursework or education in

Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences, ECE, SSW

, or related field is an asset. Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children. Patient, warm, energetic, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
