About Our Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Residential Tenancy Officer 1 (RTO 1) who will work with a team of professionals to deliver Residential Tenancy services and Condominium Dispute services on behalf of Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services.

Primary Accountabilities

As a Residential Tenancy Officer 1, you report to the Senior Residential Tenancy Officer (RTO 3) and work with a team of RTO 2s, with responsibility for providing quality service and support to internal staff/partners as well as external clients in various aspects of the Residential Tenancy program\'s coordination, administration. Responsibilities include answering escalated public questions, interpreting and/or communicating information related the Acts, Regulations, policies and processes for these programs, and providing related operational and administrative functional support to other program staff. In addition, you manage and maintain your own caseload of residential tenancies application files, receiving and reviewing cases, confirming/collecting required documentation, corresponding with clients and related parties, and enforcing provisions of the Residential Tenancies Act, all while exercising a high-level of independent decision making and judgment in your role. Applying a balanced, common-sense approach to problem solving and dispute resolution is also a key element of this position.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this position, you hold a bachelor\'s degree and a minimum of 3 years of related experience in delivering services to clients through administration, mediation and adjudication. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

In addition, you have:

  • Knowledge of the policies, processes and the governing Acts and Regulations for the Residential Tenancy and Condominium Dispute programs;
  • General knowledge of the rules of natural justice and legal terminology;
  • Research techniques, financial analysis and decision/report writing as it relates to mediation and dispute resolution services.
  • The ability to distill complex and sometimes ambiguous information into concise findings of fact;
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to share information concisely and to listen effectively;
  • Well-developed interviewing skills to deal effectively with clients on sensitive matters;
  • The ability to create, store and manage electronic files on local and network drives using software and scanning hardware;
  • Proficiency in various computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and Adobe
The following are considered assets: Working knowledge of court procedures and civil procedure rules to conduct fair hearings and provide proper weight to evidence presented and proficiency in case management software.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: PR 10

Salary Range: $2,251.48 - $2,746.69 Bi-Weekly
