Accountabilities:
SafetyEnsure that members and staff work in a safe environment. Ensure compliance with all safety rules and regulations are being adhered to by all, including but not limited to, vehicle usage, transportation of members, working alone, food, medications and equipment, storage and maintenance. Answer door and telephone during shift using proper precautions. Provide crisis intervention for members as required. Conduct checks to ensure the safety of the members and facility throughout their shifts. Complete check-ins with a designated contact in accordance with Community Venture policy and procedure. Understand and promote members' rights and responsibilities. Provide transportation to and from various locations while demonstrating safe driving skills. Follow all traffic laws while driving defensively to ensure safety. Report concerns promptly to on call person as needed. Ensure proper lifting, twisting and reaching techniques are used during job performance. Remain alert and awake at all times, throughout all shifts. Use PPE provided when necessary

Health and MedicalEnsure individual's health and medical needs are accurately attended to in a timely fashion, and that all medication is properly administered and recorded. Recognize and report concerns of abuse or neglect. Provide emotional support for members as required. Ensure meals and snacks are varied, attractive, nutritionally, and calorically adequate for the dietary and medical requirements of each member as recommended in the current Canadian Dietary Standard.

Person Centred PlansBe involved in implementing individual plans. Communicate necessary information, observations and concerns with the Coordinator. Provide individuals with support by gathering information on an individual's goals and desired outcomes.

Individual Personal DevelopmentEncourage and assist each individual to participate in daily activities in their home and community environments including reinforcing all expectations, personal hygiene, meal preparation, grocery shopping, laundry and the care of the house and yard. Ensure that the environment of the residence is supportive, nurturing, and encourages a high degree of member involvement including decision making. Role model appropriate behaviour and attitude supporting growth and promoting independence for the members.

Public Relations and CommunicationDevelop opportunities for relationships with families and the community and assist individuals' to develop positive social interactions. Ensure all contact with others is courteous and professional. Treat all members and other staff with respect and dignity at all times.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:Reports directly to: Residential Team Leader Direct reports for this position: Responsible for their own time and effort only May demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students. Participate in staff meetings and training opportunities. Be familiar with agency policy and procedures and implement into daily tasks. As required and applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions, or procedures to management.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:Responsible for the wise use of member and program resources. May be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. Maintain complete records of financial transactions as per agency policies. Assist in the completion of inventory as requested. Responsible for the completion and secure storage of records and documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures, Residential Care Licensing and the Department of Families' requirements. Record and report activities, behaviours, and any incidents which occur during the shift. Keep accurate documentation as to program vehicle usage and maintenance. Ensure facility is kept in accordance with agency policies and procedures, Residential Care Licensing and the Department of Families' requirements. Perform necessary housekeeping duties and report any maintenance issues as they arise.

WORKING CONDITIONS:The incumbent's typical work environment is a community residence, with moderate amounts of work accompanying members in the community. Working conditions may be isolated, may include a work or on-call schedule affecting lifestyle, dealing with verbal abuse and angry and/or abusive people. The incumbent may have little to no travel required. Moderate exposure to hazards: domestic cleaning supplies; handling of waste (garbage), bodily fluids/wastes, sharp objects, dirt/dust/odor, hot equipment (ovens, stoves, etc.). Minor to moderate exposure to hazards: physical attack from members, and traffic accidents when driving Minor exposure to hazards: infectious diseases, toxic chemicals, scabies, lice and/or bed bugs, emergency response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc.) and other potentially dangerous situations

Experience and Skilled Knowledge RequirementsSuitable candidates may be hired without previous experience; however, prior related experience will be considered an asset on hiring.
