The
RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT WORKER
(RSW) is responsible for connecting and engaging with people experiencing unhealthy relationships, intimate partner/domestic and/or family violence. The RSW functions as a member of a team in providing services designed to assist women and children in crisis from abuse. The RSW monitors the crisis lines and provides immediate assessment for services. The RSW will adhere to the values and mandates of Nova House and support the strategic direction of the organization. Every effort will be made to maintain standards and best practices that strive from a client-centered and strength focused philosophy and that encourages self-awareness, self-worth, confidence building, and increased independence without judgement and that is in the best interest of the women and children we serve.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
High School graduate or equivalent
Optimally, two years' experience in a related role
Awareness and understanding of issues pertaining to violence and abuse, particularly to the cycle of abuse and the profile of an abuser as well as PTSD, addictions, and mental health.
Clear understanding of confidentiality and boundary management and how to provide support to clients in a residential setting.
Highly developed and demonstrated communication skills with clients, co-workers, peers, volunteers, and supervisors.
Ability to provide crisis intervention and assessment through our crisis lines, texting and chat services.
Manage accurate and timely data entry and maintain required computer skills.
Responsibilities pertaining to the health and safety of our clients such as cooking and cleaning, including but not limited to, room searches, bag searches, bed bug checks, head lice checks and treatment support.
Help to maintain the Nova House residence which includes general housekeeping duties such as but not limited to general overall cleaning, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, removal of garbage and recycling.
Ensure that structured intake, departures, and all documentation are completed accurately and using the outlined procedures.
Able to resolve and mediate conflict and/or deal with frustration and anger using non-violent techniques, critical thinking, and sound judgement.
Demonstrated communication, writing, and comprehension skills.
Demonstrated cultural competence and experience working within a variety of cultures with a commitment to the strengths and values of Indigenous knowledge and traditional healing practices.
Knowledge of available community resources in the Selkirk/Interlake regions
Able to meet the physical demands of the position (lifting, cleaning, highway driving)
Valid Driver's License and acceptable drivers abstract.
Current CPR, Emergency First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate.
Clear Criminal Record and Adult/Child abuse registry check.
