Location of work

The work location is downtown Toronto near University Avenue and College Street.

Overview

Reporting to the Senior Scientist, Preclinical, the Research Scientist, Preclinical will plan and execute experiments to support early-stage programs and the expansion of POINT\xe2\x80\x99s discovery pipeline. The Research Scientist will also have responsibilities for ordering and managing supply of laboratory consumables and interacting with external vendors to enable an uninterrupted experiment workflow. The ideal candidate will have broad expertise in mammalian tissue culture and cell biology techniques as an approach to generating and validating preclinical tumor models. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will be able to independently design, execute and interpret the results of flow cytometry-based experiments for the purposes of validating target expression. They will work closely with the R&D team at POINT, as well as external partners, to advance candidate radiopharmaceuticals for preclinical development.

Objectives

  • Bank and passage BSL level 1/2 cell lines used for in vitro/in vivo experiments.
  • Identify and source potential new cell lines that could be used in preclinical tumor models.
  • Clone new cell lines using standard gene insertion/stable expression techniques.
  • Validate the expression of cloned/overexpressed protein targets in various cell lines.
  • Manage inventory, ordering and external vendor interactions for lab supplies and reagents.
  • Work discovery and translational R&D scientists to reach go/no-go decision points and meet timelines for key experiments.
  • Support collaborative work with external partners through material transfers, validation experiments, etc.
Responsibilities
  • Provide lab management support for small scientific team of chemists, biochemists and biologists.
  • Produce high-quality data and effectively interpret and communicate experimental results.
  • Manage time effectively between multiple projects.
  • Meet deadlines for collaborative projects and internal programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental details, SOPs, materials on hand, etc.
  • Preparation for experiments by planning for reagent use, equipment booking, etc.
  • Effective project, inventory and time management
  • Interpretation and presentation of experimental results to preclinical teams.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment for themselves and others through full compliance with health and safety protocols.
Requirements
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years industry experience with M.Sc., 2+ years industry experience with Ph.D.
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture, including human and mouse cell lines and primary human/mouse tissue samples.
  • Familiarity with aseptic technique and BSL level 1/2 protocols.
  • Strong experience with multi-color flow cytometry, and flow cytometry analysis (I.e., FlowJo). Cell sorting experience considered an asset.
  • Experience with commercially available assays, such as reporter assays, fluorogenic assays, ELISA, etc.
  • Cloning and stable cell line generation by lentiviral transduction, knock-in, or other common techniques.
  • Experience interacting with external vendors/suppliers, and ordering and managing reagents
  • Knowledge of murine tumor models, including syngeneic models and PDX/CDX.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS-Office and Graphpad Prism.
  • Excellent written and verbal scientific communication skills.
  • Knowledge or experience with radiopharmaceuticals is considered an asset but not required.
  • This role may require working in collaboration with a hospital setting occasionally, and it is mandatory for all employees to complete health screens before onboarding. In the event the screen results show non-immunity, vaccines may need to be administered.
