Lab Summary:

Samsung is working towards a vision of providing world-class AI services on its industry-leading hardware platforms like the Galaxy phones, and home appliances like the smart refrigerators and TVs, smart washers and dryers, etc. Real-time AI services on these connected devices will enable users to interact with devices more naturally via spoken dialog, visual interaction, continuous learning, and big data analysis.

Our researchers and engineers at Samsung Research America (SRA), located around North America and around the globe, are working hard towards making the Samsung\xe2\x80\x99s vision a reality. We are looking for candidates with expertise in AI, large scale data analysis, statistical analysis, deep learning, computer vision, robotics and language understanding to join us. You will work with a team of research scientists and engineers tackling real-world problems involving Samsung\xe2\x80\x99s Artificial Intelligence initiatives. You will also have the opportunity to publish at top-tier conferences in deep learning, computer vision, robotics, and language understanding, data mining, neural networks.

Position Summary:

Samsung Research AI is looking for world class scientists to join its AI Lab. The candidate will have a chance to work with other top researchers and engineers, across the Samsung AI Centers around the world (including centers in Cambridge, Moscow, New York, Mountain View, Korea, Montreal, and Toronto). The candidate will have the opportunity to publish at top-tier conferences and journals. This position is a great fit for researchers who want to be at the cutting edge and at the same time have direct real-world impact. The AI Research Center in Toronto is a key part of Samsung\xe2\x80\x99s global AI Research efforts, that aim to conduct long-term research with potential for direct impact on future Samsung products reaching hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

Responsibilities Include:

• Initiate the design, development, execution and implementation of technology research projects.
• Investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products. Plans and executes applied research.
• Maintain substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and contribute to scientific literature and conferences.
• Coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.

Experience Requirements:

• PhD in Computer Science, with specialization in Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related field in Artificial Intelligence.
• Research publications at relevant conferences such as SIGGRAPH, ACM Trans on Graphics, CVPR, ICCV, ICCP, SPIE, JOSA, etc. is a major plus.
• Deep understanding of the common problems and techniques in Computational Linguistics.
• Postdoc or industry experience in a relevant domain is a plus.
• Track record of publishing scientific papers in top conferences and journals.
• Expertise in machine reasoning and machine learning (including deep learning and reinforcement learning).
• Ability to implement solutions in at least one of Python, Java, C/C++, etc.
• Solid foundation in at least two programming languages.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal), motivation for international collaboration
• Passionate about learning.
• Self-motivated, independent researcher, and able to work well in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
• Ability to lead small team of scientists and engineers on projects.
