Job Summary
Reporting to the co-directors of Pancreas Centre BC, the Project Coordinator facilitates research activities by managing a range of projects, collaborations and grants for the team. The Pancreas Centre BC multidisciplinary team is composed of clinicians and research staff including trainees, and the Project Coordinator is an integral position supporting the team members. This position will be responsible for managing translational projects and tissue databases. The role will also liaise between team members and research groups at different locations/organizations, facilitate the development of collaborations and manage access to the centre resources to support these collaborations. The Project Coordinator works closely with the PIs and the scientific program manager in evolving and enhancing the scientific focus of the team, and ensuring the successful progress in clinical and translational research initiatives led by the centre.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Clinical and Research Directors of the Pancreas Centre BC, including Dr. David Schaeffer, Associate Professor (Partner) with the UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Work PerformedManages collaborative translational and clinical projects. Liaises with project PIs, scientific, clinical and technical support teams at various sites to identify specific project needs and concerns, and assists with troubleshooting. Works with other team members to ensure projects are on schedule and budget.
Facilitates research activities in collaborative local and national projects, including the access to the centre's core translational research resources and transfer of materials between research sites.
Engages with key stakeholders to disseminate data, discuss recommendations on research methodology and facilitate consensus.
Assumes responsibility for specific projects, including the development and management of clinical and tissue databases (OpenSpecimen).
Facilitates the development of documentation and obtaining necessary approvals, including development and submission of ethics certificate applications, material and data sharing agreements.
Implements research strategic goals and objectives of the team by ensuring resources are available to achieve goals.
Provides and reviews information specific to research protocols to define, clarify and provide assistance to others to achieve established objectives. Oversee the development of standard operating procedures.
Contributes to the development of complete application packages and submission of research grants, by working in collaboration with the centre's scientific personnel and administrative manager to ensure supporting documents are provided and deadlines are adhered to.
Develop scientific progress reports in conjunction with scientific program manager and administrative manager as required by the funding bodies. Writes and submits manuscripts in conjunction with Principal Investigator(s).
Manages pancreatic cancer research forums at VGH and BC Cancer. Prepares progress reports for research collaboration and public relations activities for the Partnership which may include biannual donor update for Foundations.
Meets regularly with research administration staff at the BC Cancer, VGH and other institutions to work collaboratively with researchers, identify research processes at each organization, and plans partnered research events, in order to avoid duplication of services.

Accountable for the timely, accurate, and responsible research management with important public health implications for cancer research.
Supervision Received
Oversight will be provided by the PI, however the position requires a strong independent work ethic and a candidate capable of setting their own directions and priorities within a given framework, and working within agreed-upon milestones and timelines.

May be asked to supervise placement, co-op, and directed studies students in research.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
