  • Recruitment range: $79,376- $87,518 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: $103,243 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job SummaryThe includes the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation (OVPRI), Research Partnerships Office (RPKM), Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI), Office of Research Services (ORS), Animal Care Services, and responsibility for UVic research centres and research entities. The OVPRI provides guidance for UVic's research agenda at the institutional level, including setting strategic research priorities and developing initiatives to support research to ensure that UVic research continues to grow and prosper. The OVPRI staff support the VPRI, Associate Vice-Presidents Research and all of the activities of the portfolio to accomplish the missions and goals set out in the University strategic plan and individual unit plans.Reporting to the Associate Director - Innovation Management (ADIM), the Research Partnerships Officer (RPO) plays a critical role in brokering and facilitating university-industry partnerships at UVic by providing and creating services for faculty and industry partners. The RPO develops, establishes and maintains strategic partnerships within their communities and facilitates the identification, protection and commercialization of technologies arising from academic research at UVic.This role is expected to work closely and collaboratively with the other VPRI and University staff that are focused on risk management and growing the research enterprise at UVic.Job RequirementsGraduate degree in a related field (science, health, engineering, business, law). Minimum of 5 years of related professional experience in post-secondary, research institutions or industry. Equivalent combinations of education, training and/or experience may be considered.Experience must include:
  • Experience and/or education related to contracts, patents and copyright legislation.
  • An established track record in partnership facilitation, community education and communications.
  • Experience working in or engaging with industry and diverse audiences and in building partnerships with such organizations.
  • Developing credibility and build effective, sustainable and strategic relationships with faculty, staff and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Expert knowledge of research management and/or administration in the post-secondary education sector.
  • Project management, communication planning and project reporting.
  • Stakeholder engagement including developing and delivering initiatives that involve diverse stakeholders with competing needs.
  • Gathering, synthesizing, evaluating and interpreting information from diverse sources.
  • Preparing clear and concise written material including reports, briefing materials.
  • Event organization and management.
Skills and competencies must include:
  • Demonstrated, strong interpersonal skills in a collegial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with engagement processes that exhibit the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to navigate conflict and engage in problem solving.

  • Advanced computer skills including - Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and project management software.
  • Working knowledge of and willingness to learn more about local Indigenous protocols and cultural practices.

  • Experience in either a post-secondary, research or government environment.
  • Background in research skills, methodologies, program evaluation and academic disciplines.
