We are looking for a Research Council Officer in Cell-Culture Processes Development to support our Human Health Therapeutics (HHT) Research Centre. This person would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Cell culture processes RCO provides leadership to develop, improve, and implement new cell culture processes to accelerate innovation in support of Research Center programs, projects, and clients.

Key activities include, but are not limited to:
  • Work independently, at times with minimal supervision, on projects related to cell culture processes;
  • Develop, adapt, and implement novel processes, mainly for HHT\'s Biomanufacturing Research Initiative and the Cell and Gene Therapy program;
  • Find novel solutions to process problems based on current cutting-edge approaches;
  • In conjunction with project leads, plan, develop, and lead internal and/or client-focused projects in support of Research Centre goals;
  • Promote continuous improvement of the know-how, the infrastructure, including equipment procurement and overview of cell culture equipment maintenance, and the occupational health and safety of the team;
  • Demonstrate leadership in project planning, including the prioritization and identification of the requirements for projects;
  • Maintain relevant intelligence and information on projects to assist in developing new project proposals;
  • Transfer developed processes to manufacturing sites (occasional travelling may be required);
  • Participate in the execution of experiments and productions that will require occasional overtime and weekend work.

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

University degree in biological, biochemical or biotechnology process engineering or a related field.

Experience
  • Significant experience in cell culture processes operating in shaking flasks and bioreactor systems for the production of recombinant proteins, viral vectors or vaccines, including the various stages from the cell ampoule to the production tank.
  • Significant experience in optimizing cell culture processes in vat-fed mode based on high-throughput multi-bioreactor systems.
  • Experience in optimizing cell culture processes in perfusion mode is an asset.
  • Significant experience in the design and execution of scientific studies, the analytical processing of generated data and the documentation of results in the form of reports and presentations.
  • Experience in feedback loop design is an asset.
  • Experience in drafting technical specifications for the purchase of complex equipment is an asset.

Technical Competencies
  • Extensive knowledge of cell culture behaviour, different cell culture systems, and process optimization.
  • Thorough theoretical and operational knowledge of bioreactors for cell culture, including key scale-up strategies and related process parameters.
  • Basic knowledge of feedback control loops.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite software: MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.

For this position, the NRC will evaluate candidates using the following competency profile:

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC\'s directives.

Compensation

This position is classified as a Research Council Officer (RCO), a group that is unique to the NRC. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $57,220 to $161,754 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world-renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions.

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
