Description
We are seeking a Research Manager with experience working with children with disabilities in a fast paced research environment. As a Research Manager within the Bloorview Research Institute the successful candidate will be required to work alongside an interdisciplinary research team working in the field of childhood disability research and participate in BRI related events, committees and meetings. Strong critical appraisal skills, effective communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills as well as excellent organization, time management, and priority setting skills are critical to the success of this position. Within this role the Research Manager will have the opportunity to work within multiple research labs, with different scientists and investigators whose research is focused on child development, participation and inclusion, acquired brain injury and/or applied innovation.
Key Responsibilities
General:

  • Collaborate with PI regarding grant applications, new research proposals, report preparation, presentations, manuscripts and development and review of study protocols
  • Performs advanced, highly proficient scientific work such as planning and conducting a series of experiments, correlating data obtained, evaluating results, preparing and presenting reports and findings and preparing peer reviewed scientific manuscripts
  • May mentor students and other lab staff
  • May coordinate lab activities and synergize with research managers
  • Assist in synthesizing evidence and generating summary reports, presentations and other knowledge translation materials (posters, infographics, videos)
  • Assist with data management, analysis and interpretation
  • Contribute to preparation of journal articles
  • Other duties as assigned
Self-Management:
  • Works under the direction of PI
  • Assignments are defined in terms of general research goals
  • Completed assignments may be reviewed to ensure conformity to research objectives
Leadership:
  • Provide direction to research staff and/or trainees on technical matters
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • PhD (in health or social sciences), required Minimum of 2 years research experience is required (ideally in pediatric rehabilitation and in an organizational setting)
  • Advanced knowledge of research practice, procedures, regulations, and research ethics board applications
  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing project timelines and sub-contracts
  • Demonstrated success and understanding of managing finances and budgets for projects
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to take a leadership role as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to organize and facilitate the productivity of investigators and staff
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Superior attention to detail and quality of work
  • Works well under pressure, can prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Professional and friendly demeanour
