Job Summary


Dalhousie University is a member of the U-15, Canada's group of top 15 research-intensive universities. Under the leadership of the Vice-President Research & Innovation, Dalhousie administers over $250M annually in research funding. Reporting to the Manager, Institutional and International Programs, the Institutional/International Programs Facilitator will facilitate research applications to and awards from external funding agencies and promote external research funding opportunities to the research community, with a particular focus on institutional and international research funding programs.


Key Responsibilities


Advises and provides expert information to researchers, senior administrators, and other audiences regarding the research application and awards process, on University and funding agency policies, and on collaborating with other institutions and partners on research funding programs and opportunities. Facilitates research applications including advising researchers on application development and letters of support, reviewing proposals and budget drafts, and submitting final versions to the funding agency when required. Ensures that applications meet funding agency requirements. Advises on and assists Dalhousie researchers and the broader Dalhousie research community with funding applications to external Canadian and international funding agencies. Identifies, researches, and masters information pertaining to various funding agencies and potential research opportunities available to Dalhousie researchers. Identifies, designs and delivers outreach sessions to improve research application preparation, writing, and reiterate funding agency guidelines and policies. Provides individual and group consultations to researchers and the broader research community. In consultation with various internal teams, helps facilitate collaborative research projects between researchers, funding agencies, and collaborating institutions, including international institutions.



Note


The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.


Required Qualifications


Master's degree in a relevant field plus approximately five (5) years related experience in a research administration or related environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience). Experience interpreting and applying policy information. Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills, and the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in communications. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a deadline-driven, fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple tasks. Strong attention to detail, time management, analytical, judgment, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficient technological skills in PowerPoint and other multimedia, word processing, financial spreadsheets, e-mail, database management, and electronic file transfer.




Assets


Knowledge of the research funding environment including funding programs, research funding agencies and practices, and functions related to research and research administration. An understanding of the university environment.
