Job Description


Dalhousie University is a member of the U-15, Canada\'s group of top 15 research-intensive universities. Under the leadership of the Vice-President Research & Innovation, Dalhousie administers over $250M annually in research funding. Reporting to the Manager, Grants and Contracts, the Research Grants Facilitator will advise on and assist Dalhousie researchers with funding applications to external Canadian funding agencies including the Tri-Agency (NSERC, CIHR, and SSHRC) and various other granting bodies such as government departments, charitable foundations and industry.
Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with researchers to provide expert advice regarding the research application and awards processes, and assist in the preparation of competitive research applications, including individual, multi-researcher and multi-institutional applications.
  • Review all applications to ensure all applicable Dalhousie and funding agency policies and guidelines are met, paying special attention to specific deliverables, budgets, terms of payment and the recovery of associated costs of research to the University.
  • Coordinate and engage in the organization, editing, submission and tracking of letters of intent and full funding applications.
  • Identify, design and deliver outreach sessions to improve grant application preparation and writing. Provide individual and group consultations.
  • Identify research synergies and create opportunities for new avenues of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research. Provide guidance on research funding programs and opportunities, and responsibilities when collaborating with other institutions and partners.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Master\'s degree in a relevant field plus approximately five (5) years related experience in a research administration or related environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience interpreting and applying policy information.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a deadline-driven, fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical, judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient technological skills in PowerPoint and other multimedia, word processing, financial spreadsheets, e-mail, database management, and electronic file transfer.
Assets
  • Knowledge of the research funding environment including funding programs, research funding agencies and practices, and functions related to research and research administration.
  • An understanding of the university environment.
