Detailed Overview: Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families: Reporting to the Manager, Research Ethics and Compliance, the Research Ethics Coordinator coordinates activities related to the Fraser Health (FH) ethics review process of regulated and unregulated research studies. Ensures researcher compliance with Fraser Health policies and REB requirements for conducting research involving human participants, and Tri-Council Policy Statement guidelines and application of national and international research ethics regulations and policy. Responsibilities:
  • Ensures all submitted applications for ethical review are complete and meet the applicable criteria for review.
  • Conducts pre-reviews of new ethics applications and post-approval applications according to the FHREB standard requirements and standard timelines.
  • Coordinates delegate reviews among the FHREB membership for all delegated submissions.
  • Serves as non-voting member of the FHREB for designated minimal risk submission.
  • Prepares correspondence that reflects the decision of the applicable review to the principal investigator within standard timelines and ensures decisions are entered into the research administration database.
  • Determines appropriate action in regards to issues arising from the committee minutes and drafts all necessary correspondence.
  • Updates/revises application forms, guidance notes, consent form templates and other applicable templates as required.
  • Conducts random audits of the research administration database and filling system to ensure accuracy of data entry.
  • Compiles data for interim and annual reports as required.
  • Prepares and updates standard operating procedures for ethics administration as required.
  • Researches international, national, provincial and local legislation, policy and standards of practice/guidelines that apply to research involving humans, and prepares issue summaries and recommendations for the Manager and the FHREB.
  • Participates in the development of ethics education by developing workshops and educational material for the FHREB, FH Research Education program and Research Ethics website.
  • Coordinates other departmental research reviews as required.
Qualifications: Education and Experience

Bachelor\'s degree in health related field, or equivalent level of education, training and relevant experience. Three (3) to five (5) years\' recent, related experience in research related environment in health care, preferably in research ethics and/or research site administration. Working knowledge of research ethics, including the TCPS, ICH GCP guidelines, Health Canada and US FDA rules and regulations. Working knowledge of other applicable legislation (e.g. FOIPPA).

  • Broad clinical and research knowledge base including preliminary synthesis of ideas on based on literature searches.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with researchers, research coordinators, industry sponsors and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use own judgement and to understand consequences and impact of own decision.
  • Ability to organize workload and priorities to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Proficient in using software applications including Word, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, Project Manager and Excel.
  • Familiarity with ROMEO an asset.
