invites applications for a

Research Coordinator

. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


Reports to the Principal Investigator


Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):


Patient Management

Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, reviews referrals and medical histories. Under the direction and guidance of the Principal Investigator, determines eligibility and suitability for protocol based on presenting and interview assessment information. In consultation with the Principal Investigator and clinical care team, the RC also determines where to forward the referral should the patient not be suitable Follows GCP, ICH guidelines and Inflammatory Bowel disease clinic SOPs during the informed consent process Completes screening utilizing appropriate tools and clinic pathway/thresholds; utilizes knowledge and skill in history and physical assessment Responsible for patient contact and scheduling, as well as room and procedure bookings Liaise with various health care providers in disseminating results of research findings

Administration

Develops an extensive knowledge of ongoing research projects Prepares subject research charts including source documentation of patient files; certified copies of the original and medical histories Maintains accurate and detailed records of patient files to ensure they fit all criteria to be enrolled in specific clinical studies Ensure data entry is accurate and precise and is entered in a timely manner according to research protocols Aide in the preparation and submission of regulatory documentation Prepares, revises, submits and maintains REB submissions Amend study protocols and consents as required Prepare reportable event submissions Organize and develop patient kits for various studies Perform general office duties (e.g. filing, mailings, courier services, photocopying) Interacting with hospital departments such as diagnostic imaging, pathology, pharmacy, health records, laboratories, etc. Receive and organize shipments Performing multiple well-defined, routine or repetitive tests, experiments, or other procedures in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Update training and monitoring logs Collecting, transcription and entry of study related data Maintain, prepare and update website material Various other duties as needed to keep the projects running smoothly

Monitoring Support

Manages all aspects of sponsor monitoring visits + Scheduling and room bookings
+ Preparing and filing study documentation prior to visit
+ Ensuring the monitor has everything required for the visit
+ Constant communication with monitor and coordinator to ensure an effective visit
+ Obtaining proper documentation before during and after visit, as required
Communicates with sponsor and affiliates regarding study progress Facilitates regulatory document completion and updates as necessary Ongoing maintenance of study binders Ensures all required documentation is available and filed properly

Communication/Relationships


Provides research related information to support staff ensuring high quality care is delivered by the team of providers Maintains ongoing communication with the collaborative team Develops and maintains good relationships with various stakeholders, including University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services staff within the IBD and GI clinic Takes initiative in maintaining various research projects by communicating with allied health professionals and staff, ensuring that protocols are followed Attends monthly staff meetings and weekly medical clinic meetings, as appropriate Coordinates volunteer support and scheduling

Qualifications / Requirements:



Minimum BSc in Health Sciences or equivalent required; MSc is strongly preferred Proficiency in a Windows environment: Knowledge of MS office mandatory Working knowledge of Statistical software Demonstrates ability to function independently and within a team environment is required Demonstrated superior physical and emotional assessment skills, required Quality data entry Minimum two years' experience in a clinical research position Certified in phlebotomy from a Canadian institute, and conduct phlebotomy and biological sample collection for clinical and research protocols, following standardized procedures for labeling, processing, storage, and documentation to ensure specimen quality and regulatory compliance, is an asset Working knowledge of Statistical software: STATA (mandatory), SAS and/or Splus/R (asset) Experience in health services research (e.g., systematic reviews, patient interviews) mandatory- Must possess above-average interpersonal and communication skills Experience in gastroenterology is considered an asset Certification in IATA, knowledge of the transportation of Dangerous Goods an asset
