The Role



The Research Coordinator will support two key initiatives: a project focused on improving mental health among workers in male-dominated industries (such as trades, oil, and gas), and a regional needs assessment pertaining to men's mental health in Northwestern Alberta. The successful candidate will help manage ongoing research, implement planned project stages, and manage day-to-day administrative tasks. The Research Coordinator will also serve as a key point of contact, facilitating communication and collaboration among project investigators, student research assistants, industry leaders, research partners, and representatives from community organizations.


Responsibilities



Managing the research initiatives to meet expected timelines Scheduling meetings with research collaborators, research partners, industry leaders, student research assistants, and community organizations as well as attending these meetings Scheduling relevant mental health training for student research assistants and completing this mental health training Supporting literature searches and conduct reviews related to work-related mental health and the mental health needs of men Assisting with preparing and submitting applications for institutional ethics review of proposed research steps in accordance with Canadian Tri-council guidelines Assisting with the development and implementation of data collection plans and tools related to the mental health of workers in male-dominated industries as well as the men's mental health need assessment, as directed by project leads Supporting data management activities, including coding, entry, and analysis Liaising with industry and community stakeholders to implement data collection processes, including online surveys, focus groups, and interviews Traveling to research sites and partner organization offices to support and monitor the smooth execution of research activities Traveling to research sites for data collection activities and sharing of research results Creating and updating knowledge translation media Complying with policies and procedures for responsible research at NWP and funder requirements. Assisting with supervision of student research assistants Assisting with tracking research-related expenses and maintaining financial records, such as receipts and documentation, in coordination with the project leads and administrative staff

Job Requirements

Job Requirements: Essential Skills & Attributes



Master's degree in a relevant field . Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus relevant experience will be considered 2+ years of job-related experience in an academic environment (department, faculty, institute/lab, research services office) preferred; job-related experience in other environments will be considered Knowledge about factors that impact mental health (especially men's mental health) Demonstrated commitment to advancing mental health, particularly in the context of men's well-being and workplace environments Project management experience is an asset Experience working on funded research projects and meeting funder's expectations are assets Knowledge of research ethics or a commitment to completing required training Demonstrated ability to liaise with industry representatives across Oil, Gas, and Industry sectors and community organizations is an asset. Ability to travel to, and work in, different locations (within Grande Prairie and beyond) Proven ability to multi-task in a busy environment, and to prioritize tasks appropriately while meeting time-sensitive demands Ability to mentor and support student research assistants Strong organizational skills and detail oriented Effective communication skills, strong interpersonal skills Self-motivation and drive; ability to maintain momentum and meet research goals Ability to anticipate potential challenges that can arise and the ability to take action without being prompted Proficiency in digital tools such as MS Office and other technology platforms, including statistics programs
