invites applications for a

Research Coordinator

. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


The Research Coordinator, with a large provincial initiative funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), will develop and validate a Learning Health System (LHS) for Kickstand - Alberta's premier Integrated Youth Service (IYS). This initiative has two interrelated aims, including: creating a Kickstand-specific LHS, by co-designing, implementing, and evaluating data practices that generate, analyze, and apply knowledge from practice to promote mental well-being for young people served within Alberta IYS, and; co-developing a large youth research lab with young people from Kickstand, where they will co-design and implement research that matters most to them.


The successful candidate for this position will be involved in the entire lifecycle of the initiative, including coordinating projects where they will organize, implement, and evaluate the daily activities and operations of the initiative. This position will report to the Principal Investigator. Working conditions involve 35 hours/week, with flexibility required for occasional evenings and weekends.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Support and coordinates various research functions within the initiative, including preparing research materials, recruiting and consenting participants, research analysis, report writing and assisting with other activities within the scope of the project. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the research including recruiting, obtaining informed consent, quantitative and qualitative data collection, data entry, data analysis, ethics submissions, revisions, and annual approvals, and appropriate and timely follow-up for research studies. Collaborate with the study investigators to perform and complete relevant parts of the study, including obtaining signatures, discussing emerging questions, reviewing research results, etc. Develop research documents including informed consent forms, source document worksheets, participant tracking, data collection materials (surveys, interview/focus group guides, etc.). Document internal processes, interpret findings, and contribute to scientific reporting and manuscripts for publication. Maintain research files with attention to version control and maintain research databases with timely data entry. Assist in scheduling, facilitating, and maintaining records for ongoing research team meetings with all research partners. Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate research visits according to study procedures and ethics compliance.

Qualifications / Requirements:



Master's degree in social sciences, psychology, or a related discipline (Bachelor's degree with sufficient experience will be considered). Minimum 3 years of experience conducting research in social, behavioural, or community settings, preferably in research specific to youth populations. Demonstrated experience in qualitative research (e.g., conducting interviews, focus groups, co-design methods, including qualitative data analysis and interpretation). Demonstrated experience in quantitative research (e.g., data collection, analysis, and interpretation with large administrative or community datasets and surveys). Demonstrated experience liaising and communicating with internal and external research partners, including government, agencies, community organizations, and non-profits. Strong understanding of ethics guidelines for conducting research. Experience writing manuscripts and scientific reports is required. Strong organizational skills, good judgment, and concern for detail and accuracy is required. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) is required. Exceptional attention to detail especially when working with research data. Able to work independently and with others as a part of a virtual and in-person team. Able to receive direction and provide support to other members of the team. Able to manage deadlines and to contribute to team products on tight timelines. Computer literacy and ease with learning new software programs, such as NVivo, SPSS, or other analytic software. Familiarity with online meeting software, such as Zoom, is required.
