Position Overview

The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months/year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Coordinator (RC) will report to the Principal Investigator on the project, "Co-Designing and Implementing Canadian Practice Guidelines for Transitions for Youth and Young Adults with Eating Disorders". The overall goal of this multi-site study is to develop and evaluate Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines for transitioning Youth and Young Adults(YYA) with Eating Disorders (ED) to adult care.

The RC position is responsible for coordination of administrative, technical, and analytical aspects of the research project within the ED Transition in Care team framework, including quality control. This position also encompasses interfacing with YYA, parents, clinical care providers, and internal and external stakeholders. The RC should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision. The RC should have a strong background in YYA mental health and eating disorders and qualitative and mixed method designs.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for the overall coordination and administration of research study and ensuring research adheres to institutional and guidelines
  • Develop study documents such as informed consent documents, questionnaires, databases, and promotional materials and ensure documents follow institutional requirements and Research Ethics Board templates for the assigned project
  • Assist with interpretation and analysis of data collected (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the assigned projects
  • Take responsibility for successful completion of projects, and tracking project outcomes, from the conception stage through the submission of all contract deliverables and project closure
  • Monitor and control the schedule and quality of the project undertaken by the research team
  • Advise regarding selection of appropriate research measures
  • Carry out study protocol including administration of interviews and surveys
  • Oversee the collection, tracking, and data entry into project database
  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator and other team members in the development of reports, grant proposals, presentation materials, and manuscripts relevant to the assigned project, including literature review and data analysis
  • Conduct background research and assist in preparing materials for use in recruitment activities and
  • scholarly publications
  • Present research findings in collaboration with team members related to the assigned projects, and
  • represent research team at meetings
  • Coordinate Knowledge Translation activities within and external to the University
  • Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and
  • senior management and with the campus community
  • Assist the PI as the liaison between the internal and external research teams
  • Assist the PI in providing professional services to other team members, internal and external to the research, providing guidance and knowledge transfer in training, procedures, and policy development
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Minimum of bachelor\'s degree in Psychology or related field is required
  • Preference will be given those with experience working with Eds and youth and young adults
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in coordinating research projects is required
  • Extensive knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g., Tri-Council)
  • Extensive knowledge in research methods and recruitment of participants
  • Strong skills with data collection software (RedCap) an asset
  • Experience with the University of Calgary\'s human ethics portal (IRISS)
  • Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment
  • Ability to solve complex problems related to data management
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and analysis software (SPSS, NVivo,) is required
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and organizational skills are required
  • Demonstrated ability in professional writing, preparing reports and conducting literature and scoping reviews for the purpose of presentation and publication
