This position is 50% part-time for 1 year, with the possibility of extension. The Research Cluster Coordinator will be responsible for managing the activities of the UBC Advancing Multifunctional Dental Biomaterials Research Cluster, which is funded by the UBC Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters competition. The focus of this position is to establish new research collaborations between cluster members.Organizational Status
The Research Cluster Coordinator will report directly to the Cluster Lead Principal Investigator and will work with the other cluster investigators, national and international collaborators, and other staff and investigators at UBC-V, UBC-O, and elsewhere.Work Performed- Coordinates all research cluster activities including establishing new research collaborations between cluster members, planning networking sessions, designing brochures, developing agendas, defining scope, and determining internal deadlines.- Leads meetings, research seminars, workshops, conferences, outreach events, and other research events to facilitate mutually beneficial working relationships.- Liaises between investigators, partners, staff, trainees, and external collaborators involved in the Advancing Multifunctional Dental Biomaterials Research Cluster including identifying novel directions for future research projects and collaborations, bridging the gap between numerous different areas of scientific expertise to bring multidisciplinary researchers together, and ensuring plans are followed through to execution for maximum effect.- Identifies appropriate funding sources and generates excitement amongst the cluster members for new opportunities.- Provides operational management and oversight of the cluster including creating timelines, submitting progress reports, and managing the budget such that the cluster activities are achieved in a coordinated manner.- Proposes and implements new initiatives that align with the cluster\xe2\x80\x99s overall long-term strategic goals.- Offers broad support to the Cluster Lead PI with setting priorities, developing strategies, building consensus, accomplishing objectives, and implementing plans.- Prepares comprehensive reports and financial forecasts.- Participates in joint grant proposal (funding agencies) and project proposal (corporations) writing for future research projects between cluster members and initiatives related to the cluster.- Facilitates ethics submissions, renewals, and amendments for research projects related to the cluster.- Communicates clusters goals and activities to relevant stakeholders including maintaining the website and developing social media sites to expand the global reach of the cluster.- Identifies and engages relevant stakeholder groups and integrates community groups and organizations (including community partners such as Indigenous communities, academia, industry, and not-for-profit organizations).- Performs other related duties as required.Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Cluster Coordinator is required to conduct all research facilitation activities in a professional and ethical manner following approved guidelines. Confidentiality must be respected when dealing with research data. Errors made could influence the ability of researchers to meet critical deadlines, as well as compromise the results of research projects, and therefore impact the credibility and funding of the PI, UBC, and other internal and external research partners.Supervision Received
Works independently under the direction of the Cluster Lead PI. The Research Cluster Coordinator is expected to develop their own work plan and timelines, and to exercise a considerable amount of judgement and initiative in the completion of tasks and responsibilities.Supervision Given
May provide instruction to students, staff, and postdoctoral research fellows as required.Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred QualificationsGraduate degree in biology/science/healthcare professional field strongly preferred. Dental degree beneficial. Demonstrated experience in peer-reviewed, scientific/technical writing and grant writing/fundraising for non-profit organizations. Experience in a scientific/medical research environment including a full understanding of research methodology. Project management experience preferred.Skills- Excellent organizational and project management skills.- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.- Strong technical scientific writing skills and/or certification.- Intermediate computer literacy including Microsoft Office and writing/publishing software such as EndNote or Mendeley.- High degree of resourcefulness, motivation, enthusiasm, and initiative.- Good understanding of research methods.- Ability to comprehend and incorporate broad scientific concepts and effectively communicate complex scientific issues.- Ability to prioritize workloads and meet multiple deadlines.- Attention to detail, with the ability to work quickly and accurately.- Ability to interpret results and make recommendations for implementation.- Ability to work independently while participating collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research team.- Ability to exercise tact and discretion.- Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills.- Knowledge of university policies and procedures.- Ability to respond appropriately to inquiries.- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people across all career stages.
