Description:

The Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) for a PhD-prepared researcher with extensive experience in reproductive and sexual health research, and with specific expertise in contraception and abortion research strongly preferred. The applicant should also have experience mentoring and working with youth researchers. The successful candidate will be responsible for co-mentoring a small team of youth researchers in conducting youth-led focus groups and individual qualitative interviews with healthcare and other service providers regarding abortion and contraceptive care provision in Canada. This candidate will lead the team in analyzing data collected from focus groups and qualitative interviews, translating findings into publications, infographics, and resource guides. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing and leading a scoping review of literature regarding social workers\' roles in family planning resource provision, translating findings into continuing professional development trainings and resources. In addition to leading and mentoring on an array of publications and conference presentations that will result from these efforts, this candidate will also participate in a knowledge exchange forum in Ottawa, at the close of the one-year project, in which all academic and youth researchers, and other healthcare, service provider, and policy decision-making stakeholders will gather to discuss findings and map strategies for continued efforts at making contraception and abortion care more available, accessible, and affirming across Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-mentor and assist in training team of youth researchers in research ethics, focus group planning and facilitation, qualitative interview planning and facilitation
  • Co-mentor and assist in training youth researchers on data analysis and knowledge mobilization through the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference presentations, infographics and community-facing resource guides
  • Developing and leading a scoping review project, ultimately publishing both the scoping review protocol and the full review
  • Ensuring project goals are met within the context of the one-year project timeline
  • Co-develop continuing professional development resources and training materials for dissemination with social workers and related professionals on topics of family planning resource provision and pertinent policies
Qualifications:
  • A PhD in a relevant field with a strong publication record in areas of reproductive and sexual health research and youth-engaged scholarship
  • 3+ years of experience working with youth researchers, reproductive justice issues, and/or social work research
  • Experience mentoring student and youth researchers in data collection, analyses, and knowledge dissemination through articles, infographics, continuing professional development materials, and other open-access knowledge mobilization approaches
  • In-depth knowledge of reproductive and sexual health policies, service delivery, and research specifically in Canadian contexts
  • Experience leading and analyzing data resulting from focus groups and individual qualitative interviews
  • Experience developing and executing scoping reviews
  • Experience preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-review publications/journals, leading knowledge dissemination and presenting findings at local, national, or international conferences
  • Social work training and practice experience preferred, but not required
  • Applications from recent PhD graduates with relevant experience welcomed
