Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with researchers and faculty members, positions at this level apply extensive knowledge in their field to perform high-level, complex research activities, and will normally hold a Masterxe2x80x99s degree. Individuals with training beyond a Masterxe2x80x99s degree who have limited experience may also be appointed into this classification level.Position Overview:The employee will contribute to designing and implementing a study of the socio-economic benefits of inland freshwater fishing in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, funded by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC). The employee will be expected to contribute to designing and piloting qualitative research instruments, organizing community visits and workshops, supervising research assistants, drafting and editing research findings, and presenting study results. Some travel will be required.Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates and to students or recent graduates of a University of Winnipeg graduate program.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and pilot interview-based research instruments for use by a multidisciplinary research team.
  • In consultation with community leadership, determine appropriate methodologies and protocols for research to be conducted in Indigenous fishing communities in Manitoba.
  • Recruit research participants.
  • Conduct secondary literature searches.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze qualitative research data.
  • Interpret research findings, co-author reports, and perform editorial tasks in preparing multi-authored reports for submission or publication.
  • Present project status and findings to research participants and communities.
  • Contribute to the training and supervision of student Research Assistants.
  • Contribute to overall activities and internal operations related to the research project.
  • Perform other duties, including administrative support, as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Applicant should hold a Master's degree in Indigenous Development Practice or a related field, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent combination of professional experience and experience working with Indigenous communities in Canada.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous research methods and protocols is required.
