As THP's research and innovation engine, the Institute for Better Health (IBH) is a core enabler of THP's mission of a new kind of health care for a healthier community through the application of scientific expertise, innovative thinking and partnerships within and beyond THP with the aim of improving the health of our community. IBH supports a diverse spectrum of research across THP, including biomedical, clinical, and educational research and also leads research focused on population health and improving health services. THP's mission of creating a new kind of health care for a healthier community is enabled by strategic research partnerships and collaboration of health researchers. We are seeking a skilled individual to join our Better Together team to help enable research and innovation at IBH.

The Role

The Research Associate role within the IBH supports research studies and initiatives across the organization and within the community. Through this role the successful candidate will support the portfolio of Dr. Laura Desveaux, IBH's Learning Health System Program Lead. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a multivariate stakeholder environment both independently and as part of collaborative multi-disciplinary focused research groups supporting various projects. This role facilitates the responsible conduct of research through support of research studies within THP. This support includes coordinating project logistics and timelines, communicating with various internal and external stakeholders, and leading data collection and analyses of various research studies within Dr. Desveaux's portfolio. The central function of this role is supporting a three-year CIHR grant that uses behavioural science to understand the attitudes and beliefs of general internal medicine physicians and their interdisciplinary colleagues towards data-driven performance improvement (commonly referred to as audit and feedback). This is a unique opportunity to be exposed to the hospital setting, support innovative health research and to play a pivotal role in enabling and mobilizing health research within and beyond the walls of Trillium Health Partners.

Scope of Work - The successful candidate will support the portfolio of Dr. Laura Desveaux including the leadership of key projects.

Role Requirements
The successful candidate must meet the following qualification and skill requirements, demonstrate the ability to take on the following responsibilities, and demonstrate the following competencies:

Qualifications and Skills

  • Successful completion of either a university degree or college diploma in health or information sciences with a minimum of 6 years' experience in research; or completion a Masters degree in an appropriate specialization (health science related field) with a minimum of 4 years' experience in research; completion of a PhD is an asset
  • Proficiency with qualitative skills, including conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups and leading data analysis
  • Experience with coordinating research activities across multiple internal and external partners
  • Experience conducting literature reviews (including scoping reviews or systematic reviews).
  • Demonstrated initiative, independence, organization and productivity
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with healthcare professionals
  • Experience with coordinating large qualitative studies and managing qualitative datasets is an asset
  • Demonstrated interest in behavioural science
  • Proficient academic writing skills (protocol development, grant writing, manuscript development, poster and slide deck development) with demonstrated experience in these areas
Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation and submission of research ethics, study coordination, analysis and dissemination of results and the organization and coordination of a major portion of the research activities under the supervision of the principal investigator
  • Plan and execute studies at different stages of a research project with minimal supervision, including creating and modifying study documents (e.g. recruitment material, consent forms, data collection forms, protocols)
  • Responsible for the quality and the relevance of your own and others work (those under your supervision)
  • Selects and plans the implementation and administration of methods and techniques for the collection of data and other tasks (query resolution, compliance corrective action plans)
  • May be required to improve or adapt existing systems
  • Lead the general study operations and logistical planning (timelines and resources)
  • Conceptualize, develop and prepare requests for grants, technical reports, and other communications and publications related to the research activities
  • Lead study coordination, conduct and data collection across multiple sites including developing and/or selecting questionnaires and other study tools, and the recruitment and training of interviewers and other project staff
  • Participate in building and maintaining inter-institutional research project collaborations
  • Lead data preparation, analysis, presentations and the development of study proposals under the direction of the principal investigator including analyzing and interpreting results using selected methods, preparing technical reports, summaries, protocols, manuscripts and quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Design and execute literature searches and prepare synthesis of the evidence
  • Investigate, create and develop new methods and techniques/technologies for project advancement including those related to the collection of data and the interpretation of results
  • Ensure data integrity
  • Support other research related projects as assigned
