Zymeworks is seeking a Research Associate II with expertise in analytical chromatography and mass spectrometry to join the Analytics group within the ADC Therapeutic Development department. The Analytics group is responsible for biophysical characterization of antibodies, antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) and/or other therapeutic proteins. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and motivated team responsible for supporting pipeline program advancement and contributing to core platform technology improvements and innovation. The candidate will be challenged to critically analyze results and contribute to the Zymeworks team effort to create clinically and commercially relevant therapeutics. This position will be based in our laboratory in Vancouver, BC, and will report to the Associate Scientist, Analytics. Zymeworks is proudly headquartered in our brand new, net-zero facility located in the vibrant Main St biotech hub of Vancouver, BC, with operations in Seattle, WA and Dublin, Ireland. We offer a hybrid work environment with most team members working in-office three days per week. Key Responsibilities
  • Provides characterization and quantitative analytics expertise to support projects at different stages in the pipeline, from exploratory characterization to in vivo studies.
  • Develops, executes and documents intact protein RPLC-MS, native protein LC-MS and peptide mapping analysis to support antibody-drug-conjugate and muti-specific antibody therapeutic development.
  • Develops, executes and documents RPLC-MS (MS/MS) quantitative and qualitative analysis of small molecules in different matrices.
  • Supports the Analytics team method development efforts through sample and reagent preparation, instrument setup and data collection and analysis.
  • Applies analytical skills and judgment in assessing the quality of data and assay performance. Prepares and disseminates data presentations for group/project meetings, summarizes results, and aids in crafting experimental outlines.
  • Participates in MS instrument maintenance and calibration.
  • Supports the procurement and organization of reagents and chemicals in the Analytics group.
  • Adheres to Zymeworks standard procedures for generating, documenting, and archiving data, maintaining an accurate, up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks\xe2\x80\x99 policies and practices.
  • May co-author or author scientific papers.
  • Actively works to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships amongst employees, management, and external partners.
  • Contributes to a safe and highly efficient laboratory environment.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Requires a BSc in chemistry, biochemistry or a similar field with a minimum of 2-3 years\' related experience.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Vancouver, BC.
Skills and Abilities
  • Good organizational and time management skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, fast changing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Good oral, presentation, and scientific/technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of GraphPad Prism considered an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in the following techniques:High performance liquid chromatography.
Mass spectrometry.
Protein biochemistry and methods for protein characterization and quantitation.
Extraction techniques (protein precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction and SPE).
Experience with Agilent or Waters HPLC and various mass spectrometry instrumentation and software are considered assets.
General knowledge of antibody and antibody drug conjugate structure, function, and analytical characterization are assets.
