As THP's research and innovation engine, the Institute for Better Health (IBH) is a core enabler of THP's mission of a new kind of health care for a healthier community through the application of scientific expertise, innovative thinking and partnerships within and beyond THP with the aim of improving the health of our community. IBH supports a diverse spectrum of research across THP, including biomedical, clinical, and educational research and also leads research focused on population health and improving health services. THP's mission of creating a new kind of health care for a healthier community is enabled by strategic research partnerships and collaboration of health researchers. We are seeking a skilled individual to join our Better Together team to help enable research and innovation at IBH.

The Role

The ongoing pandemic has heightened our awareness of the need for more accessible and equitable care, especially amongst the elderly. THP is implementing a strategy to integrate care for seniors across the care continuum, including the hospital and community. The initial focus of this work will be on an integrating virtual care for residents of long term care.

The successful candidate will work with Dr. Walter Wodchis (Research Chair of Implementation and Evaluation Science and Senior Scientist) and collaborate with Dr. Judith Versloot to develop and implement an evaluation for initiatives, programs and interventions related to the strategy for integrated seniors care, using both quantitative and qualitative analysis as appropriate. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work in a multi-sectoral stakeholder environment as part of collaborative multi-disciplinary team. This is a unique opportunity to conduct applied science within a hospital setting to solve health system problems and to play a pivotal role in enabling and mobilizing health research within and beyond the walls of Trillium Health Partners.

Role Requirements

The successful candidate must meet the following qualification and skill requirements, demonstrate the ability to take on the following responsibilities, and demonstrate the following competencies:

Qualifications and Skills

  • Successful completion of either a university degree or college diploma in health or social sciences with a minimum of 4 years' experience in health research; or Master's degree in an appropriate specialization (health or social science related field); completion of a PhD is an asset
  • Minimum of two years' of related professional experience conducting qualitative research in a healthcare setting
  • Proficiency with contributing to the design and execution of qualitative evaluation methods, including the use of interviews and focus groups; (mixed methods experience is an asset)
  • Strong qualitative research skills, specifically performing thematic qualitative analysis;
  • Experience working with software for qualitative data analysis such as NVIVO or MAXQDA,
  • Experience conducting quantitative research and knowledge of statistical software package such as SPSS, STATA or R is an asset
  • Experience in or familiarity with implementation science frameworks is an asset
  • Experience organizing, coordinating, and managing research projects and/or grant-based programs
  • Proficient academic writing skills (protocol development, grant writing, manuscript development, poster and abstract development) with demonstrated experience in these areas
Responsibilities
  • Support the design and execution of the qualitative components of a mixed-methods evaluation
  • Coordinate the general study planning, operations, and logistics
  • Assist with the development of data collection tools (e.g. interview and focus group guides, participant feedback surveys), study protocols, and ethics applications
  • Recruit participants, manage informed consent processes, and conduct interviews and focus groups
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection, preparation, and analysis under the direction of the principal investigator (e.g., analyzing and interpreting results using selected methods, preparing technical reports and summaries)
  • Ensure data integrity
  • Maintain ethics approvals and liaise with Research Ethics Board
  • Support principal investigators and research team members with day-to-day administrative tasks such as coordinating and scheduling project meetings, creating and communicating detailed meeting notes, facilitating and documenting participant stipend payments, maintaining project folders and documentation
  • Support evidence synthesis and knowledge translation activities including literature reviews, conference presentations, and manuscript development activities
  • Support other research related projects as assigned
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
