Position Overview

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

This position is for approximately 21 hours a week.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assist with data collection and participant recruitment (patients and healthcare providers) and ensuring Principal Investigator is up to date and informed on progress and challenges of recruitment
  • Support the research team by coordinating research activities across several research projects and assist the Principal Investigator with strategies for completing research project deliverables according to budget and timelines
  • Developing a recruitment strategy, data collection instruments, and data dictionary. Advise Principal Investigator if changes or adaptions are required and undertake modifications of instruments
  • Conduct knowledge syntheses and assist with systematic and scoping reviews
  • Manage and maintain comprehensive databases applying quality controls measures to ensure a clean, robust dataset is maintained (data cleaning and good data management procedures)
  • Prepare reports and write manuscripts resulting from research activities
  • Assist with ethics submissions and grant applications for new research projects
  • Contribute in design and development of research processes including identification of methodologies, recruitment strategies, and data analysis processes
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Master\'s degree in health related field (epidemiology or health services research an asset)
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods, statistics and epidemiology, knowledge synthesis
  • Knowledge and/or experience with secondary data sources for research such as electronic medical records, administrative data and national health survey data an asset
  • Skills in statistical software (Stata, SAS, or R preferable) and database management an asset
  • 5 years related experience
  • Excellent organization skills, including the ability to work independently and to multitask
  • Excellent attention to details a must
  • High level of effective time management, personal initiative and team work
  • Experience writing ethics submissions and grant applications an asset
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills is essential
  • Strong team skills as this position will have a high degree of interaction/contact with patients, researchers, students and other stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
  • Ability to thrive and deliver results in a fast-paced team environment
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet skills
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is an asset
