Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Youth Program Educator

Description of Organizations

Westcoast Women in Engineering, Science and Technology (WWEST) program designs engaging hands-on lessons for teachers, learners and youth. Using various BC Education Curriculum outcomes, hands-on STEM activities are designed to support learners and educators. . In-person activities consist of camps, after school programs and in-classroom activities that are designed as a series of visits, with the goal of promoting interest in STEM and retention for years to come.

Description of Position

WWEST is seeking a STEM curriculum supports program educator for in-school, and alternate outreach events/sessions.

Events provide youth (and some adults) with in-person, hands-on STEM activities linked to BC Education Curriculum. This position requires the successful candidate to be confident in independently preparing, and facilitating school visits, and assisting in designing and implementing STEM activities for youth in grades K-12. Suitable applicants would have knowledge/passion/interest in science and/or education.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Appropriately facilitate events (lessons, camps, etc) in schools across BC/Yukon
• Assist in developing and delivering engaging and unique STEM lessons/activities linked to BC Education curriculum
• Support developing a network within the provincial STEM community
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members
• Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

• High school graduation, additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience with youth is required
• Clean criminal record check
• Full COVID vaccination is required
• Excellent organizational skills
• Attention to detail in both written, and verbal communication
• Basic computer literacy
• Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and own transportation is required

Preferred Qualifications

• Teachers Certification, or equivalent education and experience (minimum completion of Undergraduate or equivalent degree with preference to those with a Masters, or education in a STEM related field)

Wage: Hourly wage of $23.54-27.02 CAD/hour, with 20-35 hours/week
