Job Summary
The Research Assistant will be based at the Rehabilitation Research Lab at ICORD in Vancouver, BC. The Research Assistant will coordinate team meetings, facilitate registry updates, and engage knowledge translation efforts.

The UBC Department of Orthopaedics has an international reputation for excellence in teaching, research and patient care. Our mission is to create knowledge, advance learning, and improve musculoskeletal health for the community at the provincial, national, and international levels. The Department consists of seven clinical divisions and a division of orthopaedic research, and is comprised of 200+ academic and clinical faculty who choose to contribute large blocks of their time to advance knowledge in the areas of clinical orthopaedics, musculoskeletal science as well as applied biomedical engineering and related basic science areas. This focus allows the Department to be at the forefront of exciting new developments in the areas of minimally invasive joint replacement, improved bone healing, advanced techniques in spinal surgery, innovative arthroscopic techniques, and improved biomaterials and implants.
The Research Assistant will report to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Bonita Sawatzky and co-investigators.
Work Performed
Attends meetings related to the project and takes minutes
Assists with compiling reports for funders
Creates Knowledge Translations outputs by performing routine tasks, such as, prepping, gathering and compiling information
Assists Principal Investigator with hosting webinars via. Zoom by setting up Zoom meeting settings and links
Assists with routine tasks related to drafting summaries for research articles, grant preparation, and preparing newsletters
Updates study website and social media platforms
Performs other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The incumbent is expected to make simple decisions concerning aspects of research activity after seeking input from the Principal Investigator. The incumbent is expected to understand the safety ethical principles of research involving human subjects and to adhere to these guidelines. Inappropriate judgement exercised by the incumbent could result in a wastage of time and other resources, breaches of privacy/confidentiality, and negatively impact the reputation of the research team, Rehab Research Lab, ICORD, and the University.
Supervision Received
The Research Assistant reports to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Bonita Sawatzky. The Research Assistant will work as part of a research team and direct weekly guidance overall, but will also be required to conduct work independently.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Undergraduate degree in a health-related discipline an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to work with people of diverse needs and excellent skills in problem solving
Excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience with computers and computer software including MS office and reference software
Knowledge of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita is an asset
Experience working with vulnerable populations
Able to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities
Ability to be self-directed, and to work both independently and within a team environment
