The Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning is the largest of four departments at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). With a diverse community of tenured, research, and teaching stream faculty, the department offers a wide-range of graduate courses and programs relating to academic scholarship and professional practice.

Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of theManager, Finance and Administration, the Manager, Academic Programs and the Chair of the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, the incumbent provides effective and efficient support to research and communications initiatives in the department.To this goal, the Research and Project Coordinator identifies and communicates funding opportunities of various sponsor groups and programs; facilitates, reviews, and provides value-added feedback on grant and award applications; provides technical, administrative support to faculty in the preparation and submission of research applications and award nominations; providing information to faculty about external research funding and award opportunities where applicable; provides input on strategies for maximizing funding success; and provides advice and assistance on the development of application budgets. The Research and Project Coordinator also promotes our existing research initiatives, assists with raising the profile of research successes, and communicates departmental activities by preparing promotional content and providing ongoing updates to our departmental website and social media sites. The incumbent is also responsible for providing support for student awards, Leading seminars and/or workshops, and preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected.

Overtime is required for the processing of grants applications during the months of August to October and during departmental Research activities peak periods.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting research initiatives to increase program visibility and reputation
  • Coordinating the preparation of submission materials
  • Liaising with agencies, collaborators, industry sponsors, faculty and other stakeholders regarding funding applications
  • Keeping well-informed on funding opportunities and resources, application policies/procedures and key deadlines
  • Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Checking that applicants meet requirements outlined in the awards criteria
  • Advising students on financial aid/award matters by probing and providing a range of options and possible outcomes
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experiencein an academic divisional research administration environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of supporting development of applications for research funding and identification and communication of funding opportunities.
  • Experience incoordinating events and maintaining web sites.
  • Proven experience using many aspects of e-technology such as online grant application systems (e.g. SSHRC, CIRHR).
  • Familiarity and experience working with the grant application process and tri-council peer reviewed research guidelines.
  • Experience assisting researchers on the development of application budgets.
  • Experience providing administrative support to scholarships and awards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complicated regulatory guidelines in a clear and effective fashion.
  • Experience working with and supporting committees; coordinating meetings and events.
  • Demonstrated experience developing relationships and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and understanding of academic research are essential.
  • Advanced proficiency with computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of the University\'s Research Information System (RIS).
  • Demonstrated skills and ability using spreadsheets and analysis.
  • Web site development skills and Internet searching skills are essential for success.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy. Able to exercise tact and use discretion regarding confidential matters.
  • Planning and coordinating skills with demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and helping others do so.
  • Flexibility in adjusting to changing circumstances; demonstrated multi-tasking skills; ability to manage multifaceted, concurrent projects and tasks.
  • Able to work well with deadlines with minimal supervision. Proven ability to initiate and coordinate new projects based on faculty and individual needs and department goals.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment based on sound principles and to take necessary action.
