BCIT\xe2\x80\x99s Centre for Applied Research and Innovation Department is currently seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Research Analyst.This is an exciting opportunity to work in a collegial, team environment on leading-edge energy management and related software systems in the area of Smart Grid and Electric Vehicle Infrastructure. The Research Analyst position is a temporary, full-time, intermediate level position on our Software Development team. The successful candidate will join our seasoned, multi-discipline team conducting research, development and demonstration projects the areas of: microgrid and energy management systems (EMS); green transportation and smart electric vehicle charging networks (EVEMS); and critical infrastructure cybersecurity. Initially the position will be responsible for assisting with design and development of full-stack applications for learning energy management systems (LEMS) for microgrid and EMS for electric vehicle charging.


Duties & Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assist with design and build of full-stack software applications, in the research areas discussed above.
  • Communicate effective strategies during proposal, technical due diligence, and/or design phases.
  • Benchmark and debug critical issues, and participate in software design and code reviews.
  • Assist in deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting production systems.
  • Develop and document APIs.
  • Prepare progress reports, summarize results, and present on project outcomes.
  • Manage and respond to project related email, maintain notes and references in an organized manner.
  • Participate in project meetings (including by video conference or phone).

In addition to the above, preference will be given to candidates who have had an active role and recent experience in several of the following:
  • Recent experience working in an integrated, multi-discipline, cross-functional project team,
  • Understanding concepts of energy management systems, and experience programming EMS software,
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in machine learning and/or optimization,
  • Programming of data communications drivers/adapters for Modbus or similar protocols,
  • Demonstrated experience designing & building distributed systems, including web services,
  • Experience with database model design & SQL,
  • Experience with UX/User Interface Design,
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new development tools, and adapt to change
  • Demonstrated ability in object-oriented programming, and in implementing design patterns



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or Institute of Technology Diploma in an area suitable for the work to be performed and four years\xe2\x80\x99 relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Thorough knowledge of current and emerging technologies and trends and research experience in one or more of the department\xe2\x80\x99s identified strategic technologies
  • Ability to comply with Institute policies regarding confidentiality and ownership of intellectual property

Salary Range
Salary Range: $56,970 - $78,162 per annum.


Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
