About the Role

Global BC is looking for a regular part-time radio reporter/anchor to join our weekend news team. Reporting to the regional managing editor for digital and radio, the successful candidate will be responsible for reporting on local news for radio, writing local stories for the TV morning show, and anchoring radio newscasts as needed.

This is a Group 2B position under the current Collective Agreement. It will require regular weekend shifts, as well as backfill on evenings and statutory holidays as needed.

You'll be working on things like:

  • Pitch, research, write, and deliver news content that reflects the issues and interests of our audience in a compelling, compassionate and competitive manner;
  • Monitor all news sources, including emails, websites, wires, and social media;
  • Communicate with the assignment desk and team members on all platforms on breaking news, tips, chases, interviews and other editorial matters;
  • Work closely with other Global BC platforms to effectively and efficiently gather, deliver, share and repurpose news content;
  • Backfill radio anchoring shifts as required;
  • Other duties as required.
If you have the following... we want to hear from you!
  • Degree or diploma in broadcast journalism from a recognized institution;
  • Ability to write accurate, concise, and creative broadcast copy;
  • Ability to cover breaking news with accuracy, speed, resourcefulness and original thinking;
  • Ability to work to extremely tight deadlines;
  • Excellent people skills, with an emphasis on communication, openness, teamwork and accountability;
  • Strong desire to innovate, explore new ideas and acquire new skills;
  • Knowledge of source diversity, inclusive journalism, and the Indigenous populations and issues in B.C. considered an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of B.C. news, the Burli operating system and/or the WordPress publishing platform also considered assets.
