About the role:

Global BC is looking for a permanent, full-time Anchor/Producer to join the #1 newsroom in Western Canada. Reporting to the Global BC News Director/Station Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for anchoring, writing, producing, and delivering news content for Global News Morning on Global BC, and on BC1. This is a Group 5 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by:

  • Anchoring news on Global BC and BC1.
  • Writing news copy for on-air, including newsbreaks, story leads and bumpers for news programs.
  • Doing live hits as required for Global BC and BC1.
  • Initiating and monitoring story development and maintaining quality of production.
  • Monitoring all news sources, including feeds, wires and social media.
  • Chasing breaking news stories - including coordinating live coverage and setting up interviews for broadcast, and facilitating pictures and video for online coverage.
  • Communicating breaking or changing news situations with online and other show producers and anchors.
  • Assisting in the coordination of reporters, editors, and cameras when necessary.
  • Lining up and producing newscasts for Global BC and BC1.
  • Other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
  • Post-secondary education in Broadcast Journalism.
  • 10 years major market journalism and anchoring experience.
  • Experience anchoring live breaking news and performing live hits as an anchor.
  • Demonstrated capability in driving editorial direction.
  • Proven ability to write accurate, concise, creative broadcast copy and put together news line ups.
  • Experience meeting multiple deadlines for broadcast and online.
  • Ability to develop sources, contacts and research original stories.
  • Experience in diverse and inclusive journalism, and reflecting those voices in newscasts.
  • Knowledge of the Indigenous population in BC, trauma reporting, and storytelling through the lens of Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Extensive knowledge of and contacts in Metro Vancouver\'s diverse communities.
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation.
  • Familiarity with current state of online news reporting and publishing.
  • Familiarity and ease in using social media.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to work independently, effectively, and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Experience in representing the company at various community and charity events and connecting with the audience.
