Limited to Transit Peace Officers in ATU 569

This is an appointment to a relief pool where the successful applicants will be trained and mentored until fully competent to take over a permanent Sergeant position as they become available. Successful candidates will remain in their existing positions and will be compensated at the Sergeant rate when relieving in the position.

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of a team of Transit Peace Officers to ensure that the objectives of the Community Standards Peace Officer Section are met
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff including the deployment of personnel, conduct communication/debrief meetings, and engage in all aspects of employee performance such as coaching and developing, team building, discipline, training and recognition
  • Build a respectful workplace culture, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness on your team
  • Respond to incidents, emergencies and intrusion alarms
  • Enforce municipal bylaws and provincial statutes on or in relation to ETS property
  • Conduct mobile and foot patrols on ETS property, vehicles, and facilities in order to detect and deter criminal activity and promote public safety
  • Provide a wide variety of services such as preparing and giving evidence in court, investigating complaints as required, completing and handing in reports to management, retaining and securing evidence and records, transporting fare media and cash, and providing crowd control management for special events
  • Ensure Peace Officer reports meet standards of policy for completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness from the lenses of ethics, legality, bias-free enforcement, and GBA+ principles
  • Liaise with the Security Team, Service Support, Control Center, Edmonton Police Service, and other agencies and organizations
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s diverse communities, the public, and internal and external stakeholders
  • Respond and investigate major incidents and notify management
  • Maintain roster and payroll databases and complete resource scheduling as required
  • Respond to all arrests and provide assistance to Transit Peace Officers
  • Serve as the On Street Monitor during assigned times
  • Make recommendations for the training of Transit Peace Officers
  • Maintain a high level of competency in interviewing, investigation, mediation, supervision and conflict resolution
  • Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 and a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in a Law Enforcement or Security related field along with additional supervisory/leadership courses and a minimum of 3 years of strong customer service experience and 3 years experience working in a security or law enforcement role - OR - Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of 5 years of enforcement experience in a recognized Law Enforcement environment; must have been a serving Police Officer in Canada within the past 5 years
  • Retain Community Peace Officer Level I Provincial Designation
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate inclusively and respectfully with diverse community members and work inclusively as part of a diverse team
  • Demonstrated understanding of racism and discrimination as it pertains to law enforcement, and how bias can influence behaviour and decisions
  • Standard First Aid and Basic CPR certification
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver\'s License (or provincial equivalent); Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver\'s Permit is a requirement of the position
  • Knowledge and experience with Edmonton Transit policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines
  • Skilled in exercising good tact, sound judgment and firmness in dealing with difficult situations and with the public
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, bylaws, acts, legislation and basic principles of loss prevention
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to prepare clear, concise reports
  • Ability to use current computer software including word processing and databases
  • Ability to build an inclusive and respectful workplace culture, and to provide team leadership, supervision and administration
  • Knowledge of technical tools and effective investigative skills
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills to make decisions under high pressure situations

  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Transit Peace Officer
