Summary of Role Reporting to the Manager, Kitchen, the Cook at Inn from the Cold (The Inn) is responsible for preparing, presenting and storing all food products as well as ensuring the kitchen, the equipment and areas including the bathrooms are cleaned and maintained daily. This position also includes working with the team to meal plan following the Canada\'s Food Guide, ensuring the menu is with in the kitchen budget, utilizing food donations, while keeping in mind that we are cooking child friendly nutritious and tasty meals. Ensuring that all AHS Food Safety Standards as well as The Inn\'s Kitchen Standards are followed. Checklists and temperature lists are filled out daily as well as communication with off shift team members is up to date and accurate. This role will require a class 5 driver\'s license with a clean 3 year drivers abstract. As the kitchen is offsite, you will sometimes be required to drive a company vehicle to transport food. This is a casual relief role and will require the candidate to be flexible with working weekends, weekdays and evenings. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspection daily on equipment and van, and report any deficiencies.
  • Safely operate and drive The Inn\'s van to pick up and deliver various items and products while respecting all road/traffic rules.
  • Preparing, presenting, and storing of all food products following the AHS Food Safety Standards and The Inn\'s Kitchen Standards.
  • Ensure refrigerators/ freezers and storerooms are clean, organized and maintained in various kitchen areas including bathrooms on a daily basis.
  • Collaborate with Kitchen Team to plan menus that follow the Canada\'s Food Guide and are within budget.
  • Able to creatively repurpose leftover food for other meals
  • Follow update and adhere to all checklists, temperature checks and prep sheets.
  • Complete assigned side duties and work duties within a timely manner, meeting required deadlines.
  • Practice proper grooming, personal hygiene, and uniform standards.
  • Will need to have applied for a Police Check and Vulnerable Sector check before starting employment.
  • Aid in maintaining department objectives, timelines as well as ensuring they are met and exceeded.
  • Meet performance expectations and communicate in a timely manner when there are obstacles to meeting expectations.
  • Participate in organizational activities including employee engagement activities, team meetings, town halls and team building.
  • Participate in development opportunities.
  • Occasionally required to drive The Inn\'s vehicle to various locations around the city to pick up and /or drop off donations or other items

Requirements
  • Strong communication skills.
  • People focused. You must be able to share why you want to work for The Inn.
  • Minimum 1 year professional cooking experience.
  • Baking experience is an asset.
  • Mental alertness.
  • Ability to provide legible communication.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Knowledge of proper sanitation procedures and food safe guidelines.
  • Effective decision-making skills.
  • Strong adaptability skills.
  • Adhere at all times to The Inn\'s Policies, Procedures and Code of Conduct.
  • Innovative, detail oriented, and quality conscious.
  • A class 5 driver\'s license with a clean driving record is mandatory. A driver\'s abstract will be requested on 1st day of employment.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback and leadership.
  • Basic Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (an asset).
  • Ability to lift and carry 50lbs waist high and to exert physical effort when transporting donations and meals to our offsite locations.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Complete all required training as assigned
Work Conditions
  • Interacts professionally and pleasantly with staff, visitors, volunteers, and vendors
  • Manual dexterity required to use various kitchen equipment/utensils.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Physical activity including standing for long periods of time and lifting objects.
  • Active participation throughout each day; changing positions often from sitting to standing.
  • Working in crisis or emergency situations with the potential to be exposed to emotional or confrontational situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate different gross motor activities.
  • Lifting, bending, twisting, pushing and pulling items ranging in weight up to 50lbs.
  • Required to work at both the commercial kitchen or the servery kitchen at Neoma
  • Maybe asked to cover a shift on short notice
