The Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for providing their expert opinion when consulted by Case Management and when working with injured workers and employers. Opinions offered relate to assessment and implementation of personal care and independent living assistance, assessment and analyses of physical and ergonomic work requirements, and completion of job demand modifications/accommodations for return to work plans of the injured worker.
Job Duties:
Completes personal care and independent living assessments at injured workers' homes to determine eligibility as per WCB policy. Provides recommendations for the level of entitlement and equipment to ensure safety and independence with daily tasks.
Actively works with Case Managers in coordination of visits where appropriate, gathering information and discussing expert opinion and recommendations.
Actively builds relationships with medical vendors, private healthcare companies, wheelchair and equipment manufacturers and other contacts to promote and facilitate best care practices for injured workers.
Completes mobility assessments and provides recommendations for safe and appropriate mobility devices.
Completes work site assessments and physical job demands analysis, providing recommendations for suitable and safe return to work.
Consults with hospital staff and assists with hospital discharge planning and provision of services for severely injured workers.
Completes home and vehicle modification assessments and provides recommendations including facilitating and implementing the necessary modification(s); following up with the injured worker to ensure their safety after recommendations are implemented and acting as an expert resource on the home modification and vehicle modification committees.
Pursues professional and personal development through continuing education and training, literature reviews, and other opportunities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A 4 year or Master's degree in a related discipline such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a National Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing
Minimum of 5 years related work experience, including 2 years' experience in a multidisciplinary rehabilitation or community services setting
Must be licensed and in good standing with the Manitoba regulatory body
Ability to use a personal computer and software in a Windows environment
Knowledge of worksite assessments, physical demands analysis, job analysis and ergonomics
Ability to research, assess, evaluate, document and communicate information to support recommendations and clinical reasoning
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to provide excellent client service in confrontational situations
Ability to act with tact and discretion in sensitive situations
Ability to organize and prioritize workload
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Able to travel within city limits and the province of Manitoba
Knowledge of WCB legislation, policy and practice would be an asset
Specialized knowledge such as wheelchair seating or home modifications would be an asset
Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required
