We are a psychotherapy clinic looking for an amazing male therapist be a long-term member of our team. This person will provide individual and couples counselling in both in-person and virtual settings.

What Type Of Person Are We Looking For?

Simply put, we are looking for a 'therapy all-star'-- someone who loves supporting others; someone who has a track record of providing exceptional care; and someone who has a natural ability to help clients go deeper than they ever expected.

Do you routinely have clients tell you that you've made a difference in their life?

Great. You passed the first test.

Now, read on for more details to see if you'd be a good fit for our team.

In terms of TRAINING, we are looking for someone who:

Has a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology, Psychotherapy, or Social Work Is in good standing with a regulatory college
Important Note: RP(Q) candidates with exceptional skills and/or backgrounds are invited to apply.

Important Note #2: Just an FYI that we also have a bit of a soft spot for people with well-rounded or eclectic educational backgrounds. Was your undergrad in Existential Philosophy or Art History? Wow us with your resume and skills and we'd be more than open to chatting.

In terms of THEORETICAL ORIENTATION, we are looking for someone who:

Has exposure to a breadth of orientations and is certain which suit their therapy style (and, just as importantly, which don't) Has done their research and knows the ins and outs of Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, etc. Knows how to draw from a multitude of approaches ... sometimes all within the same session Personalizes every approach they use Is grounded in a radically client-centered approach to care (Bonus points if you show love for Carl Rogers in your application*)
Is able to help clients ask, and answer the 'Why?' question ... rather than simply focusing on textbook management of presenting issues Deeply embodies the notion of being 'non-pathologizing' in a practical counselling sense Has firm beliefs regarding how the change process occurs in clients and how their support can bring about that change

In terms of EXPERIENCE, we are looking for someone who:

Has experience assessing people and situations Has hundreds of hours of experience in a one-on-one, support-driven context Not only has experience--but also has a passion--for counselling couples Has experience leading meetings in a professional context Has a track record of cultivating long-term clients Implicitly understands the boundaries and ethics involved with the profession of psychotherapy Has experience leading clients from consultation call, to session work, to exploration and growth, and on to graduation from care

In terms of SOFT SKILLS, we are looking for someone who:

Has lived experience and/or familiarity with personal situations commonly encountered in psychotherapy (conflict, personal growth, anxiety, divorce, career challenges, addiction, depression, values formation, decision making, etc.) Is known by others as someone who is steadfast and wise Knows their personality and processing styles, and is wise enough to know the strengths and drawbacks associated with each Has a great sense of humour Naturally puts people at ease Respects the branding and business aspects of their work Is comfortable navigating technology platforms (Zoom, client database, etc.) Takes out the garbage and makes sure the whiteboard is squeaky clean (without being asked)

Do you fit these criteria?

Awesome.

Now, here's the nitty-gritty.

We are a psychotherapy clinic in Oakville who are bursting at the seams with individual and couples clients. We are looking for a male contractor who can handle both individual and couples clients in virtual and in-person settings. Our typical age range of individual clients is 12 to 65 years of age. We have a wide breadth of clients in our current practice, and we want to continue to be nimble enough to accept any and all new clients as they contact us.

Our staffing philosophy involves bringing on amazing contractors who want to grow along with our clinic. We are looking for a team member who is willing to provide exceptional client support, retain clients, and grow their client base alongside us. Because we are a private practice, this growth will be incremental at times and explosive at others. We want a team member who can handle this ambiguity and who is willing to dynamically support their clients, whether there are 2 or 22 of them.

We are also looking for someone who understands that psychotherapy is a business as well as a helping profession. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is committed to great customer service involving impeccable telephone manners and the ability to respond quickly (within 24 hrs.) to all client inquiries.

On top of this, there are, of course, the usual things that you'd expect to see in a job posting like this -- Health & Safety Responsibilities; Liability Insurance; etc.

Our plan is to keep this position open until we find the perfect person. We'll be patient, and we hope you guys will too.

Please don't take it personally if you don't hear from us. We will only be contacting the select few who have been chosen for an interview.

So don't worry, you're still awesome. And we know you'll find a great fit for your skills eventually.
