Mandatory Requirements

Licensure
: Must be licensed to practice in Ontario by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) with no restrictions.
Scope of Practice
: Must work within the regulated scope of practice for Registered Practical Nurses (General Class) as defined by the CNO.

Clinical Competencies
:
+ Physical assessment (all ages)
+ Venipuncture, IV management, ECG interpretation
+ Suturing (if permitted by local policy and training)
+ Remote nursing and telephone triage skills using evidence-based decision support tools
Conduct comprehensive health assessments across the lifespan, including adults, pediatrics, and obstetric/gynecologic populations.
Recognize deviations from normal findings and determine need for diagnostics or referral.
Adapt assessment techniques based on patient condition and developmental stage.
Document assessments in accordance with CNO documentation standards.
Reassess patients, particularly those waiting in non-acute settings, to identify changes in condition.
Communicate assessment findings clearly and promptly, both verbally and in writing, to ensure continuity of care.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Work effectively with other healthcare professionals to support continuity of care and appropriate patient management.
Deliver culturally safe care by integrating cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial needs into patient care.

Experience & Exposure
Experience in remote or rural nursing environments is preferred.
Prior experience in emergency or nursing station settings is an asset.

Provide clear, concise, and timely documentation of assessments, triage decisions, and care plans in accordance with CNO standards.
Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams regarding patient care and triage outcomes.

Professional Practice
Apply critical thinking and sound clinical judgment during assessments and triage.
Deliver care safely in adherence to standardized triage protocols (e.g., CTAS) and through continuous patient reassessment.

Ongoing Development
Maintain current certifications and pursue professional education in assessment, triage, and remote care.
