Position Description

The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Registered Nurse to work in Forensic General Unit A (FGUA). As a Registered Nurse, you will:

  • Provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care for forensic inpatients from diverse populations under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB).
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of risk, and individualized care plans, along with a fundamental understanding of the forensic legal and mental health care systems.
  • Ensure the security and safety of the inpatient unit, practice in accordance with professional regulatory standards, CAMH policies and procedures, the CAMH Practice Model of Care, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
  • Liaise with other CAMH services and community agencies in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of inter-professional plans of care for clients with a wide range of diagnoses.
  • Utilize critical thinking and a customer-service approach to patient care; provide education, support and supervision to students.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and the research activities of the program.
  • Help facilitate evidenced based programming.
This position involves day and night 12 hour shift rotations and weekend work. This position is located at the Queen Street Site.

Qualifications

As a registered member, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario, you bring comprehensive knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, severe and persistent mental illness, addiction issues, recovery-oriented approaches, culturally competent care, trauma-informed care, and group facilitation. You also have a demonstrated ability to make behavioural observations, conduct physical and mental status assessments, and monitor a client\xe2\x80\x99s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions. Additionally, you will have:
  • A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate.
  • Nursing experience caring for individuals with mental illness and/or addiction issues.
  • Sound knowledge of crisis intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, severe and persistent mental illnesses including schizophrenia, mood disorders, personality disorders and substance abuse disorders.
  • The demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour.
  • The skills to contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages inter-professional teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Please Note: This full-time, permanent position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range: $37.93 - $54.37 per hour
