Job Description


The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Registered Nurse to work in the Psychosis Coordinated Care Service (formerly Partial Hospital Program). PCCS provides services to clients either who do not require hospitalization but require a highly structured treatment program to transition from an inpatient setting, or who require increased support in the community to prevent decompensation. The overall program philosophy incorporates a recovery model, emphasizes education to clients regarding their illnesses, access to treatment and recovery, acute stabilization of symptoms, and promotes progress with continued recovery. Clients receive individualized, focused, goal oriented support to facilitate stabilization of symptoms in a less restrictive environment. The program is skill based with intensive group therapy with the goal of stabilizing clients to help them reengage in community activities. As a member of a community based inter-professional team, the Registered Nurse will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care, and ensure secure and safe adherence to CNO standards of nursing practice. Using a case management model, you will be expected to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the inter-professional plan of client care for clients. You will work in partnership with clients, their formal and informal supports, and the team, to meet their recovery goals. You will function as the primary nurse for a number of clients, while being available to the team\xe2\x80\x99s other registered clients, and contributing in a discipline specific role. You will liaise with other services within CAMH and the community to coordinate care and you will refer and link clients to appropriate services and resources. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide educational support and supervision to students, and participate in the research activities of the program. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status assessments, administration of medications, monitoring clients\xe2\x80\x99 response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, addiction issues and severe and persistent mental illness. Day, evening and weekend hours will be required. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at the Queen Street Site.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR). You will have of two years\xe2\x80\x99 psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions. Experience within an outpatient setting is an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a B.Sc. N and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Preference will also be given to those with community nursing experience, and a comprehensive understanding of Recovery principles and their application to client service. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem solving skills are required. Knowledge of emergency psychiatry and crisis intervention principles and theory are required. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note: This full-time, permanent position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range: $37.93 - $54.37 per hour
