The Complex Care and Recovery Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is currently seeking a part-time, temporary (until February 2, 2024) Registered Nurse to work on the Forensic Assessment Unit. As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centred, recovery oriented, psychiatric and general nursing care. In addition, you will ensure the security and safety of the client care environment, and practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice, CAMH Policies and Practice Model, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice. Working within a primary nursing model, you will perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client-care for clients from diverse backgrounds who may be suffering from mental health and addiction problems and who are detained under the Criminal Code or under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). You will liaise with other services in the CCR Program, across other CAMH programs, and across community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be responsible for working with clients from diverse populations; contributing to program development; providing education, support and supervision to students and participating in research activities. You will develop, implement and monitor risk management plans and contribute to the assessment of client\xe2\x80\x99s fitness for trial. You will ensure compliance with the ORB disposition or court orders. You will participate in the preparation of ORB and Court reports and in implementation of risk management processes. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable, regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves shift rotation (days and nights) and weekend work. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem-solving skills are required. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, conduct mental status and risk assessments, to monitor client responses to pharmaceutical interventions, and to engage in continuing documentation and communication with all members of the interprofessional team. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, addiction issues, recovery model, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, severe and persistent mental illness. Your strengths will include, but not limited to, an ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate interprofessional client-centered care plans, and an understanding of how to work within both the forensic and mental health systems. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with forensic patients is an asset. Knowledge of risk assessment tools would be important. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note: This part-time, temporary (until February 2, 2024) position is a 0.3 commitment, which may be subject to change as per the Collective Agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. This position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.
Salary Range: $35.52 - $50.85 per hour
