Position Summary:



The Obstetrical Day Unit provides hospital-based outpatient care to obstetrical patients registered to delivery at THP, within the Birthing Suites.


Responsible for triaging all obstetrical outpatient care, both external (MRP offices, Ultrasound clinics, etc) and internal referral Providing direct care to obstetrical outpatients including induction procedures and monitoring, non stress tests, IV infusions and obstetrical assessments. Liaising with obstetrical, midwifery and family practice offices for care planning Ability to work in Birthing Suites proper, Labour Assessment Unit and Obstetrical Operating Room as required - regular assignment to maintain competency Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to obstetrical outpatient care with the inter-professional team

Responsibilities:



Ability to think critically and effectively in order to prioritize needs in emergency situations Highly effective decision making, problem solving and organizational skills combined with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written Ability to work between BSU care areas as required Reliable and flexible individual to work as part of a diverse work team Liaising with MRP offices and other care clinics to triage and book patients for assessments, follow ups and procedures Communication with Coordinating Nurses in Birthing Suites for care planning and prioritization of admissions Epic triaging and scheduling Providing direct care to obstetrical outpatients Patient and family teaching Participating in an inter-professional care model including physicians, learners, nursing, midwifery and allied health Participation in quality initiatives and improvements for outpatient care

Qualifications



Minimum 5 years in Birthing Suites, leadership roles within Birthing Suites an asset Perinatal Nursing Program Certificate or equivalent experience required Current NRP and CPR certificates required Current Fetal Health Surveillance required Previous intrapartum and postpartum experience required Ability to work between BSU Epic proficiency required Manage patient scheduling and make adjustments as needed, plan patient follow up and create care plans Excellent patient teaching skills Extensive knowledge of labour induction and methods Positive attendance and work record
