Your Opportunity:

The Registered Nurse (RN) functions in the role of an expert clinician and resource person, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals with renal disease and/or kidney transplant. This encompasses three distinct patient populations: Chronic Kidney Disease (Pre-Dialysis CKD Stage 1 - 5) Patients, , Peritoneal Dialysis (CKD End Stage 5) Patients, and Kidney Transplant Patients. The overarching objectives of this role include: Delaying the progression of kidney disease, whenever possible. Identifying and treating reversible causes of kidney disease. Minimizing and managing comorbidities associated with CKD and following kidney transplantation. Reducing the morbidity and mortality of patients with CKD and in those who have undergone kidney transplantation. Optimizing biochemical, physical and psychological health for all clinic patients. Increasing patient knowledge and informed decision-making in respect to the optimal treatment for kidney failure, given the patients' circumstances, abilities, and 'or physiological health factors. Where appropriate and consistent with the patients' wishes, education will promote living donor transplantation, home dialysis, and non-dialysis conservative care. Optimizing training and management of/follow-up for patients who chose peritoneal dialysis (PD) as a treatment for end-stage renal failure. The RN is accountable to the public for his/her own practice as regulated by the Health Professions Act (HPA).

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications: Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) in Nephrology Nursing preferred. Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment required. Demonstrated computer and electronic health record documentation skills required. Ability to maintain effective and respectful working relationships required. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, assessment, and teamwork skills required. Ability to apply the principles of adult learning required. Recent or current experience & knowledge in the Case Management process of care preferred. Minimum of 3 years of recent or current nephrology and/or chronic disease management experience required. Experience in the management of diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, and weight loss management preferred. Specialized Clinical Competency in the administration & management of Peritoneal Dialysis preferred. Recent or current experience/knowledge in immunosuppressant management preferred. Note: This position involves lifting and movements requiring fine motor skills (e.g. hand dexterity) as essential to teach and perform Peritoneal Dialysis. Preferred Qualifications: As Required.
