Your Opportunity:

The generalist Public Health Nurse is a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders. The Registered Nurse - Public Health will effectively use the nursing process to deliver quality care. Provide safe, ethical, and patient/family-centred health care. Independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counselling, preventative and screening measures, referrals and evaluation as appropriate. Fort Vermilion is a beautiful northern riverfront community along the banks of the Peace River. The spectacular shows of northern lights in this region can number about 300 per year. Fort Vermilion is one of the oldest communities in Alberta and is rich in history and culture. The successful candidate must be able to work respectfully with diverse populations. New hires accepting Regular Full-time UNA positions located north of the 57th Parallel are eligible to receive a Recruitment Initiative payment of $2,500. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Travel Expense Reimbursement: Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th Parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta from a community above the 57th Parallel and cannot be carried over. Additional incentives, such as temporary housing & Relocation Assistance, are based on eligibility and availability.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Public Health nursing experience is an asset.
