Salary Range: $34.24 - $49.02 per hour (Start rate determined in accordance with collective agreement requirements)
Hours: Up to 22.5 hours per week; Shifts: Days And Nights
Status: Permanent Part-Time

The scope of research and complexity of cases at Toronto General Hospital have made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. It has one of the largest hospital-based research programs in Canada, with major research in transplantation, surgical innovation, cardiology, infectious diseases, genomic medicine and liver disease. .

This inpatient unit is one the largest head and neck & plastics program in the country. As part of the surgical oncology program, we also care for patients having gyne/oncology and urology surgery. We have 4 step-down beds on the unit for closer observation and monitoring.

Our strong inter-professional team cares for patients recovering from major and minor head and neck and plastic resections /reconstructions. Nurses on this unit are experts in airway management, flap monitoring, leech therapy and psychosocial assessments and support.

The program focuses on cancers affecting:

• Oral Cavity (Lip and mouth)
• Larynx
• Pharynx (nasopharynx, oropharynx, hypopharynx)
• Salivary glands
• Nasal Cavities and sinuses
• Thyroid & upper traches
• Breast requiring reconstruction
• Skin (melanoma/basal cell)
• Other Head and Neck Malignancies

As a member of the UHN and the Nursing Multi-disciplinary Team, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. The principal responsibilities include: applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN.

Qualifications:

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S) certification
• Previous experience in E.N.T. and plastic surgery
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be flexible, and possess the ability to work effectively and efficiently within a variety of patient care teams
• Excellent organizational, time management and decision making skills
• B.Sc.N. preferred
• Computer literacy an asset
• Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
