The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is a member of the Edmonton Zone Public Health (PH) team that provides integrated, strength-based, family-centered public healthcare services. Your PHN opportunity is in the Healthy Young Families program and includes all services offered in the Well Child Clinic and Healthy Beginnings program. Using the nursing process, you deliver PH services to individuals, groups, and communities including antenatal/prenatal care; routine postnatal care, health assessment, counseling, screening, immunization; follow-up and referral, linkage, advocacy, consultation, health promotion, and teaching as they relate to preschool and school-aged children, families, and adults. The PHN will collaborate with community agencies and external health and social service providers to further coordinate client care and provide informed referrals for individuals and families that meet their broad health needs. This position requires the following: Ability to carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment; pack, push, pull, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies; walk 3-4 blocks, climb 3-4 flights of stairs to deliver services; carry out awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 7.75-hour shift, including sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Ability to document in an electronic medical record continuously throughout the shift. Previous experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e. ethnocultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.). Ability to be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment. Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision-making, and organizational skills.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
