Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) that is passionate about working with children in an inpatient mental health setting. Unit 301 is a 11-bed acute care unit for children struggling with a variety of emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric concerns. We are looking for someone with experience working with children and adolescents that has expertise in engagement, assessment, treatment planning, and is a strong team player. This position will work closely with the interdisciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses/Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, and Child, Youth Development Specialists.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses are required: CRNA Medication Administration Certificate (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience working with children and families required. Minimum 1 year inpatient psychiatry experience required. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, and provide hands on care to patients in unpredictable, urgent situations. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Physically able to lift 11 kg. The children and youth who attend these programs experience significant mental health and/or behavior issues who may demonstrate anger and/or anxiety. Ability to work in a noisy environment is essential. Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered. 2 years current Pediatric Mental Health nursing preferred. Connect Care experience preferred.
