The Stollery Philip C. Etches Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, is a 69 funded bed unit that accepts babies from all over Northern Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. The program utilizes a Family Centered Care philosophy within an interdisciplinary team model, and is a NIDCAP (Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program) training center. The Program is involved in several quality improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will perform a variety of nursing duties and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families to achieve positive patient outcomes and improvements in quality care. Nursing care will be administered safely and effectively according to NICU and hospital guidelines. As a Registered Nurse in the role of Clinical Support/Research Nurse you will provide clinical support and consultation to the Clinical Researchers working in the NICUs in the Edmonton zone. The combination of clinical expertise and research knowledge, allows this position to help serve the neonatal patient population, and further the standing of the NICU as a center of excellence in clinical research. In this role you will work with patients, families and the clinical team in supporting clinical research activities. The role includes but is not limited to: Initiating, analyzing, and reporting neonatal sleep studies. Supporting our team for neonates undergoing Therapeutic Hypothermia (Total Body Cooling). Being actively involved in various quality improvement initiatives. Providing updates and education as requested. Function as a resource for multi-disciplinary NICU team members regarding research processes, research feasibility, regulatory requirements, consents, and setting up data collection platforms.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
